It’s unbelievable!
I have now used the shredder over the last month or so and cannot believe how good it really is. I have used to to shred a lot of different types of foliage and it copes really well, comping through thick branches with ease. It is very satisfying watched the shredder munch the longest branches. I have found that it works best, if branches are feed into the machine and that some branches are split into 2 or 3 parts, mainly as it is easier to feed in the machine and to reduce the number of leaves. Occasionally the shredder gets clogged, but this is usually if there are too many leaves being feed at one time. But to put in context I have shred about 4 full wheelie bins of foliage and it has probably clogged 2 or 3 times. It is usually easy to clear. Overall this is a great machine, and I would recommend spending a bit more to get this, especially if you have a lot to do and want something reliable and hassle free.

Great shredder - just keeps on going!
I had initial reservations about ordering this shredder: I was initially drawn to to the Bosch AXT Rapid 2200 (as I’m generally confident in their products ) but it had enough variable reviews to put me off. This Ryobi has a bigger power output and generally looked ‘beefier’ so I thought I’d take a chance on it instead. I’m so glad I did because I have been most impressed with its performance since! The unit has a relatively small footprint and is easy to move about via the its wheels. It’s not too loud in operation and you won’t need ear defenders. The clippings box is a decent size at 55 litres (which translates to being full every twenty minutes or so if shredding constantly). It’s very simple to operate: basically just ‘on; ‘reverse’ (if the mulched gets jammed) and ‘off’. It’s very safe to use also - and there is no danger of losing any fingers even when using them to force down the odd bit of resistant garden matter (though use of the provided paddle for this is better and more effective). So far so good, but what’s great about this shredder is how reliable It is and pretty much happy to handle anything I’ve thrown at it. It claims a maximum width of branch/stem of 40ml and it manages this with ease (and I’ve often exceeded this) you can stuff things in pretty indiscriminately (ie grab a handful of mixed diameter branches mixed with softer/greener stuff) and it just chips it all without fuss. I have used the shredder for several hours now for long periods and not once has it overheated or required manually freeing up/clearing the mulching gear/mangler. What you tend to find is that once the collecting box is full it won’t accept new material until it’s emptied. This too is a safe process as the collecting box acts as a circuit breaker once it is removed (ensuring that the unit can not be activated until it is replaced). I’ve probably only needed to use the ‘reverse’ function a couple of times to unblock a jam (and this worked fine). In short this is a great product that I’m really pleased with. Simple, effective and safe - and for the money probably as powerful as you might get. Highly recommended.

Great shredder but not that ‘silent’
This has made my life so much easier! I have hedges and shrubs everywhere in my garden so getting rids of the cuttings is a challenge. With this shredder it reduces the volume of debris significantly. It takes thick 4mm wood very successfully. However I wouldn’t necessarily call it ‘silent’. I think it’s actually quite noisy, I can only assume other brands must be very loud. One recommendation, if you are using this on a lawn then I’d stand it on an old sheet or small tarp. It has quite a large bin to catch the chips but it doesn’t always sit evenly so sometimes when you pull the bin out to empty, some of the contents pushes out onto ground. Made abit of a mess on my lawn the first time. The other comment I’d have is that the chips are quite big. I was hoping to use the chipping on my garden to supplement the bark but it’s not really suitable for that.

Real garden buddy
Honest to God best £400 I ever spent, no more blisters chopping up branches with secateurs to get it all in the bin, this shredder is a really functional tiugh nut, it goes through stuff quickly and easily, it has cut my clearing up time at least in half maybe more, I had a shredder before with a rotating blade that used to jam all the time, this one has more of a grinding cog that mashes through even oak, the only time it got a little jammed was when I you pushed to much leafy stuff in there and only got a blockage once by not emptying the container when it was full but thats more human error than the machine not operating correctly. This shredder is so easy to unjam with the reverse function. It's really so easy to use and chops stuff up so small you don't have to keep empting the bucket underneath every 5 secs. I have started making my own mulch too. The wheels make it slightly easier to move about otherwise it would be heavy for me too lift and move around. Really strong and durable shredder, I don't mess around when it comes to gardening and I need my tools to be tough work horses and that what I got, I am stoked

The best I have ever had
I have had a few mulchers. This is definately the best. I have had those silly things with revolving plates and blades which go blunt as soon as you start up, and jam too easily. I gave up on these and for several years used a £99 lawn mower, which was faster and lasted and lasted. Then I had a large house and bought a 6HP Orange petrol one. This was ok, (not OK) and jammed occasionaly. Then we have moved to a smaller house and petrol items don't like being stored. After taking 30 mins to persuade the mower to go it was time to go electric. I noticed this had a 3000W motor (thats 4HP BTW) and gears not rotating blades. SO I decided to give it a go. Works OK. The pull through action makes it easy. Then a friend asked to help with his garden. In an afternoon we produced 1000 litres of mulch. It did not jam once. If you can get it in the slot, this machine will mulch it. There seems to be an auto adjustment for thicker branches . I didn't need to reset the blades but there is a little wheel which does this, simplicity. SO in conclusion:- powerful, less likely to jam than any of the other designs I have tried, in fact we couldn't get it to jam, tireless and nice and quiet (ish) and not using petrol which goes off.

It works well and I’m impressed
Really good, you have to be careful when you add branches with kinks, can jam in the cassette. I’ve used this for 4 years, no issues. Also worth removing the waste bin during a big load to level the scraps, otherwise build up near the blade end. The plunger has snapped, probably the weak link of the product. I’m still impressed, but as for silent, I’m not sure whether the manufacturer is losing their hearing or tone deaf, but it’s not silent. It’s not loud either, more of a grinding than a noise. It’s not ear protector territory. If this dies, it’s had a good run, I’d buy again quite happily. Now I need to find a replacement plunger. It doesn’t like leaves that are separated from branches, it chokes up. The pro version that tree surgeons use is about £18-20k, so a few hundred isn’t terrible.

What a superb tool. Not silent.
Decided to buy this model after using a friends Bosch chipper. This one is more powerful and quieter and £200 ish pounds cheaper. I used it today and was blown away by its performance, it certainly does what they say it will. What annoys me though is how they can possibly advertise it as 'silent', by the very nature of its job it's not going to be, so please, if you do buy it, as would be reccommend, then just be aware that though a great deal quieter than a mower or a hedge trimmer, it's not silent. Don't hold this little detail against it, it is excellent, Japanese build quality, easy to put together first off and without doubt the best tool I have bought in years, well, I did buy a Hyundai mower recently that is just as good😀. If you want a tool like this, buy this one!!

Worth every penny!
This is one of the better mulchers/shredders I’ve used over the years. And the value for money is second to none. Easily cuts through most things apart from Bamboo. Bamboo has a tendency of wrapping around the blades but it’s not a huge issue and it’s common with most shredders so not just this one. The safety is great you CAN NOT get your hand in near the blades. And the machine cuts off when you pull out the tub underneath so no chance of the blade turning when exposed. It easily mulched up tree after tree sometime you need to help it by twisting and feeding when it hits a knot but again that’s to be expected with the size of the hole. A lot of reviews say about the noise and how can this be called silent….. it’s a shredder it’s going to be loud when it’s chopping! Have you ever stood next to a chipper? If you have you’ll call this silent. Obviously you’re not going to be able to use this late at night or in a library. But if you’re doing work that requires this shredder you probably should be wearing ear defenders in the first place. It comes with a 3 year warranty which is reassuring. The cable is a decent length so can always find a good spot to put it the wheels make it easy to manoeuvre so good mobility. The only minor problem I’ve found is after heavy use it gets hot and requires a break to cool down. We all need a break from time to time so listen to the machine. If you’re in any doubt about getting one consider renting a chipper and you’ll buy this. Great purchase
