BT Smart Hub 2
Bt have been regularly telling us that we will be changing to digital voice in the very near future. Since we have many wireless gadgets I was dreading setting up a new Smart Hub 2 when the time came to transfer. I saw this hub at the bargain price of £27.99 and decided it would be a good investment even though BT will supply another in time for the transfer date and it would permit doing the transfer now and the setting up of our wireless gadgets now to save any worry, confusion and delay. This hub can be used for both analogue and the new digital voice service. The hub arrived this morning and I set it up successfully in about half an hour. To avoid having to change each wireless gadget to the new BT Hub 2 settings, I changed the network name and wireless key to the existing ones by accessing the router settings. The hub connected first time and all the ethernet and wireless gadgets connected and worked without any problems whatsoever. One reviewer mentioned that there were no instructions on setting up included with the hub. The hub we received was clearly brand new and included all of the setup instructions normally supplied by BT. The one we bought was marginally more expensive than some others at £27.99 but was an Amazon Prime item with free next day delivery. I'm happy to have bought this even though BT will eventually supply their similar hub. The worry of transferring and potentially losing service when the transfer is done by BT is no longer a problem. I understand too that all BT broadband will transfer to EE but I understand from other reviewers here that this hub is better than the EE one and will work with EE I think this hub is a great buy and I can assure anyone buying it that it is not at all difficult to set up. Another thing I should add is that in order to change over to digital voice, BT will have to change the wall socket and then an ethernet cable will replace the existing connection in the hub. This cable was supplied with the hub provided

Excellent router/modem for BT or PlusNet customers
I was doubtful about this hub and felt that spending a bit more on a router/modem would be worthwhile. However, I was wrong. Having spent twice the cost of the BT Smart Hub on an alternative, which was a router without modem and which was impossible to install, I decided to give the BT Smart Hub a chance. Apart from the fact it was half the price of the other, it was easier to install. I did still need to get assistance from PlusNet (our ISP) to complete the installation, which they were happy to do - and the whole process took about 20 minutes. The biggest improvement has been a strong, stable wifi signal which reaches all areas of the house, as well as the garden and garage area - which is the first time we've had a decent coverage for years. Works a treat, as long as you have either BT or PlusNet as your ISP.

Brilliant!
I bought this router due to ongoing problems with a weak WiFi signal in some parts of my house, particularly running the Chromecast at the back of my TV. I have been through a number of WiFi extenders over the years, some worked for a while, some not at all (you can find my scathing reviews elsewhere)! I eventually went on a BT community forum and this was recommended to me. I could not be happier: Setup was incredibly easy and I now have a great signal throughout my house, no need fro a WiFi extender at all! It should be obvious, but you can only use this with a BT broadband connection, however it is cheaper to buy it from Amazon than BT. I don't really understand why the image for this product is the cardboard box it came in, but I don't imagine anyone cares what it looks like. It works!

Purchased to replace EE hub after being forced to return Smart Hub 2
So, like a lot of BT customers, my contract recently ended, and BT forced me to move to EE broadband. A few days later I received the new EE hub. And probably like most customers, I just left my Smart Hub 2 installed as everything was working fine. Then 5 days later I get quite simply a plastic bag come through the post addressed to me. Then I get a text from BT advising me that if I don’t return the Smart Hub 2 within a few weeks, I will be charged £40 !!!! Blinking cheek. I bundled up the hub and sent it back in the post. I installed the new EE hub, and all seemed fine. Roll on a few days and suddenly I woke up one morning and my wifi wasn’t showing as being active. Rebooted the hub and everything started working again. A few days later I went to make a call using the Digital Voice (phone via Wifi) and I got dead air when calling my parents. Apparently, my dad said his phone rang and he answered it but nobody was there. I made a test call to my mobile and sure enough, whilst I had dead air on my home phone, my mobile rang and there was no speech path at all. Again, I rebooted the Hub, and everything came back working. This happened a few times and I decided enough is enough. Found this item by this seller at a very reasonable price. Got it a few days later. Brand new in the box. Removed the EE hub and installed the Smart Hub 2. Been weeks now since it was installed, and I have had no problems with Wifi stopping or Digital Voice issues. Everything is working as it was before I installed the EE hub. The EE hub is rubbish and if you want your reliable connection back get this hub. Seller is excellent and reliable.

So much better than Home Hub 5
Been struggling for months if not years with internet freezing then having to wait a minute for it to recover. Bought this for a quarter the price charged by BT and although I have only had it up and running for a couple of hours, the difference is wonderful. Noticeable improvement in speed and I can now use the wifi signal (rather then transferal through electric wiring) which was necessary with Home Hub 5 as its signal didn't go far enough. I do have BT broadband. Set up really was as simple as plugging in and then just going round the house telling my devices the new router. It came in exactly the same box as BT would supply (BT printed on outside of box), with instructions, security password, a broadband cable, an ethernet cable and a power cable that yes, fits a UK three pin plug. It is the same as BT supply, be assured. Just remember it does only promise to work with BT Broadband. So glad I didn't buy from BT Shop.

Very good, but needs to be set up properly and allow time to stabilise the broadband connection
Delivered very promptly and produces a powerful and fast wifi signal. Now using it after a month's continuous usage I would give it 5 stars, but the set up was painful, hence 4 stars. Here is the reason. Out of the box the modem has firmware which is several versions old and thus well out of date. The firmware does NOT update when connecting up for the first time automatically. You have to reset it at least twice to get the latest firmware. There were no instructions about doing this. It is not stable with the old firmware and wifi cut out after a few days. A second consequence of having to restart the device many times is that the line speed drops considerably as BT network systems adjust, which then creates bandwidth issues and further wifi cut outs. (BT always advise to keep any modem on all the time for this reason). After a month now, we have had no further issues and very happy with the modem.
