I've used up to 128GB stick with no issues. USB 2.0 is recommended but it works with my USB 3.0. I'd recommend USB 3.0 due to faster copying times to your thumb drive during Rekordbox preperation.

I think you are talking about Firmware, and you need to bring it up to date to the most recent version to avoid issues. For software, it works best with Rekordbox DJ. It will also work with Virtual DJ with some setup but the integration is not as good.
