Love this lame
I've been making bread at home for years using one of the traditional lames to score the dough. I was never happy with them, too flimsy and no secure way to cover the blade to store away.Breadsmart's lame is very well made, it's solid and all parts snap into place with a loud click. The way you insert the razor blade into place is very simple and safe. Most important to me is the way you can safely store this lame; the cap that covers the exposed edge of the blade snaps solidly into place and you can be sure it won't slid off in the drawer to cut your finger next time you start digging for something. What else can I say? The lame is pretty, of good quality, works well and stores safely! Do yourself a favor and buy one, u won't regret it.

Very nice!
Study, well-made. I like that the blades have well designed safety housings. It does an awesome job of scoring the loaf before baking.

Read this review if you can't figure out how to remove the blade
The media could not be loaded. I used my Breadsmart Lame for the first time last night. I may come back to this review to revise it after repeated use, but because I also spent an hour after using the lame trying to figure out how to remove the blade for washing or if it gets dull, I figured I would try to help other people in the same situation as me. So here's a poorly-shot video that shows how the actual blade comes out. A few things to note:Don't leave the plastic cover over the blade when you slide the blade holder off the handle. It's tempting to do this because we don't want to slice our hands open, but after you've practiced sliding the blade holder on and off the handle a few times you will figure out how to do this safely. If you slide the blade holder off the handle while the cover is on it, you will not be able to safely remove the cover. Don't even try. It's not worth the inevitable wound. Also, it should go without saying but don't place your hand/finger directly on the cutting edge of the blade when you try to remove it. The flat top and bottom edges of the blade (the short sides of the rectangle) are dull. The cutting edges are…not. So when you look at the video, you'll see I'm using my index finger (not a piece of wood, as a commenter helpfully suggested), because I'm not pressing on the cutting surface. So here's what you do: take the plastic cover off the blade, then carefully slide the blade holder off the handle. Apply gentle, even pressure to the very top flat edge of the blade. You can do this with your finger but if you're worried, a wooden spoon should work nicely. Once the blade starts to show through the bottom of the holder, you can gently tug it out, again being sure to only handle the flat side of the blade.I do have to add that I actually wrote Breadsmart's Customer Service and the person who responded offered to hop on a video call with me so they could walk me through how to remove the blade. This is very, very good customer service, but I'd imagine it would be easier if they'd just update their instructions and/or video tutorial.

Really nice lame
I tend to be kind of clumsy and was a little intimidated about installing the blade in most traditional bread lames. This one was designed to keep people like me safe! It is really comfortable to use, and the cover stays nice and secure when not in use.

Great lame
Have gone through so many different styles of lames. This is by far the best made, solid build, and easy to use.

Love it!
Decided on this bread lame - I like that it has 2 different ends for they way the razor fits in, also the fact the covers snap on for safety I know that I don't have to worry about somebody reaching for it and getting cut! Works very nice and comes with a supply of extra razors

Good, but.....
It cuts really well, but broke within 1 hour. This should be made better and stronger and should include 2 protectors instead of one.

Carefull you don't throw away one of the covers!!
This is a really nice Lame....and yes it DOES come with 2 covers! Many thanks to the review from SALIANDRA who pointed out that the second cover is on the back of the packaging, and yes, I did have to go did through the trash to find it...!Also, be careful when changing the blade, it is very easy to cut yourself, but as the review from KATRINA ROSAROSO points our, you should leave the cover on when changing the blade and it makes it so much safer. All in all a nice product.

Love it
I love this bread lame. I used one of those cheaper lames with the razor blade that curves and it just scared me with kids in the house.I love that it has a straight blade and a curved one. And the covers are just a little too hard for my kids to take off, but easy for me. It is easy to handle and I’ve been able to make beautiful designs in my sourdough bread.I loved mine so much, I even bought one for my dad for Christmas.
