Significantly helped my acne scars
I had horrible cystic acne in my early teens that left a lot of scarring and hyperpigmentation on my face; mostly my cheeks, but small dots here and there on my temples too. I use prescription clindamycin for the occasional cystic acne now, but of course that doesn't do anything for scarring so I decided to branch out. I'm scared of needles so microneedling, while arguably not THAT scary, wasn't an option both because of my fear and because of the price... Hence, this product. I chose this one because it had a lot of reviews honestly, I am definitely a victim of the "oh, this product has close to five stars and blah blah so many reviews, that must mean it'll work on me!" mentality sometimes, I will admit, so I was a bit skeptical because I've taken this approach before with some products in the past and it didn't go well. THIS is the best choice I've ever made for a skincare product. While the scarring on my right cheek is still there, it is very minimal now and way less noticeable. As for my left cheek, it's literally almost completely gone. It's crazy. I've only been using this for like maybe 2 months, and just like that, bad acne scarring is gone. I didn't even know that was possible. That being said, just because this worked super well for me doesn't necessarily mean it'll work super well for you, everyone's skin is different! I will also add that the serum itself works very well on my oily skin. It's not drying, sticky, and it seems to absorb into my skin well, which is an issue I have with other products. A few minutes after applying it, I don't feel it whatsoever, both in feeling and appearance. You don't need very much of it either, which is pretty common in retinol, to my knowledge, but I really like that I can use just a teeny tiny bit every so often and still have results. Definitely worth a try if you're considering it for acne scar reduction.

Works right away UPDATE!
Updated review: People of EVERY age need this product! I've officially been using it for three months, and not only did it literally erase the freckles off of my face, but I no longer have the deep 11 lines between my eyes anymore. Not to mention that when I started using this product, I had terrible breakouts of acne in my T-zone due to hormonal changes related to peri-menopause and for at least the last month, I have not had a single pimple or blackhead anywhere on my face despite having made no changes to my diet, activity level, medications, etc. Acne was the reason I started using it, but getting rid of wrinkles is an absolutely acceptable side effect! All that said, I did have a long purge period (about 6 weeks), where I had to use blotting papers every couple of hours due to shine, and my breakouts were worse in the first couple of weeks of use. When I first reviewed it, the breakouts hadn't started yet. I didn't know what I was in for. I would wager it's not suitable to those who are sensitive to retinol. But, if you're willing to tough it out, you WILL be rewarded with smooth, acne-free, less wrinkled, even-toned skin. While it is heavy duty stuff, the formulation is not painful and does not burn or aggravate on contact. It's actually kinda silky. It isn't sticky or oily at all, and soaks in fairly quickly. I would highly suggest an oil-free moisturizer though, because as I said, the purging of oils is fairly extreme, but you need to moisturize or you'll have dry spots/textured areas and redness. I would also suggest washing your face twice a day - when you wake up and before bed. Also, try to avoid getting it in the under eye area, because it's probably too harsh for that area (though I have accidently got it there and nothing happened, but the skin in that area is likely too sensitive for something this strong being frequently applied). No exaggeration, the skin on my face is so smooth that after my routine, I have to use setting powder on my forehead because it is SO shiny! It's not oil, though; it's just that smooth. I also no longer have freckles on my face. If you can handle acne issues getting worse before they get better and you stick with it, you won't be sorry. My skin looks better than it has since before puberty, and I'm almost 42. This serum is definitely under-rated considering its price and effectiveness. Everyone needs to know about this stuff!! Don't forget the foaming acne face wash, and I would also recommend a benzoyl peroxide spot treatment for those early weeks, but definitely not absolutely necessary, because I no longer need one. It will eventually improve just by using this product. Unless you already have perfect skin, you definitely need this serum! Original review: I paired this with the Cerave foaming acne cleanser. I have very oily skin - especially since peri-menopause has kicked in, and just washing my face twice daily isn't enough to keep it smooth and clean...until now. These two products used together are my new twice daily ritual. I could probably even get away with just using them once a day, and may do that if they become drying or irritating, but so far, after three days, this has been the perfect combination for my face. Now, if I can only find an under eye serum, my entire facial routine will be all set. lol

By The 3rd Day!! (Updated)
I bought this product because I came across a YouTube short that claimed this exact CeraVe Retinol product could keep my pores clear. I'm a male in my late 30s and ever since I hit puberty my face became oily. A lot of my years since I became conscious of my oily skin I started to carry a piece of paper towel in my pocket to wipe my face throughout the day. Bounty absorbs my face oils way better than any of those face sheets meant to absorb oil. The summer heat is the worst for me, however, ever since the 3rd day of using this product my skin has stopped producing so much oil! I'm shocked!! It's like why did it take me so long to find a product capable of making my face soft and matte. It's not common for me at all to have a clean, fresh looking face in the summer. Usually I look like a hot, stressed greasy mess in the heat. I avoid going out as much as possible during the summer. This product is bringing my confidence back! I'm not having to wipe my face as much anymore. It's truly an unexpected blessing!! I was not expecting it to help my skin so much! Wow! I will be buying this product from here on out. It's truly amazing for problematic skin. November Update: I had been using this retinol every night but I started to back off. It was making my skin look nasty like dried out and shiny in some spots. My oily skin ended up returning unfortunately which was surprising. Seemed very promising at first. The good thing is I found another product that has been helping control my oily skin. It's actually meant to control oil. BLITHE Targeted Pore Serum with 22% Niacinamide for Oil Control can be found here on Amazon. Been using this product for a few days now and it is doing everything the retinol was doing for me at first but without the dry, flaky, shiny skin. It is no longer hot outside so I'm also not sweating as much. For now it is truly helping my oily skin but the real test will come by the time summer comes again.

A retinol for sensitive skin
If your skin is too sensitive for retinol you should try this. Apparently jumping right in using a retinol cream every night was a bad idea. My skin rebelled and I screwed up the moisture barrier. So I put that cream aside, rebalanced my skin by being extra gentle and tried this serum. 1 my skin is sensitive, 2 my skin is normally on the drier side. 3 I occasionally get pimples along my jaw line during my period. When I was half way through this bottle I noticed my pores looked more clear and less clogged which gave them the appearance of being smaller, which they don't get smaller just less noticable. I suffer from massively clogged pores specifically on my nose. They always looked dirty. They were less so now. I didn't experience any dryness or irritation. If you do I suggest using a hyaluronic acid serum before this one and giving it time to soak in. I've done that here and there on drier skin days. By the end of the bottle I noticed some unevenness in skin texture was smoothing out and darker scars from acne were ever so slightly lightening up. I have a bad habit of not giving products enough time to work and moving on bc I want instant results, yeah not smart. Because this is a much gentler form of retinol it will take longer to see full results but I've already started using my second bottle and that wonderful horizontal worry line on my forehead is ever so slowly becoming less noticable. Bc of how sensitive my skin is I was afraid I would never be able to use a retinol product bc I've tried many with disastrous results even when I used them once or twice a week. CeraVe knows how to take care of skin, they know how to create products that work effectively for all skin types without damaging your skin in the process. You just need to figure out what YOUR skin needs and check out their line of products. I didn't notice any particular scent but as far as I know they do not add fragrance to any of their products which I appreciate bc my skin does not like fragrance even if my nose does. When I run out of this product I will be repurchasing and I use this in conjunction with the CeraVe Skin Renewing Night cream or the original CeraVe moisturizing cream at night if my skin is particularly dry. My skin, at 33 looks better now than 5 years ago bc I'm making an effort to take care of it. I wish I had back as a teenager but maybe anybody reading this will think about taking care of it better bc it's never too late to start. Last thing, I always wear a sunscreen during the day. I'm not a foundation fan but I love the CeraVe tinted sunscreen. It offers the right tint to even out my complexion while still protecting. It's on the moisturizing side so give it a few minutes to soak in or use a little setting powder and your good to go. Also, the tinted sunscreen is not great for darker skin people, I'm pretty pale, so if CeraVe could expand that line to include a larger range of skin tones that would be so helpful.

Pleasantly surprised
I’m a guy and I have somewhat oily skin. I don’t normally put any products on my skin because I don’t like the way that they feel. But I’ve developed a couple of dark spots from being in the sun a lot so I wanted to try this. The good thing is I don’t really feel this product on my skin after it dries so that is a major plus for me. I was not expecting much from this product but about 10 days after I started putting it on I really noticed an improvement. The main thing is that I can hardly see the pores on my face anymore. I couldn’t believe it - I thought that was just the way my skin was. And my skin just looks better overall - more even and less blemishes. So this will definitely be a part of my daily routine. I will say that it didn’t do much for the dark spots from what I can perceive so I started dabbing on some fade cream with a Q-tip on those specific spots - and I’m not sure that’s even really working. Guess they’re pretty stubborn.

Do you break out? READ THIS. It broke me out - A LOT.
I gave this 3 stars because I still believe it's likely a good quality product. However, for me, the 2 stars I deducted are because it broke me out. A lot. I followed the suggestions on not using it too frequently to start, especially since it did immediately give me one, then 2 acne bumps. I tried it 3-4 times over the course of a couple of weeks with several days between each application, but ultimately ended up with at least 5 very red, very visible pimples -- one on my right cheek, left cheek, chin, upper lip, and between my eyebrows. Now, how do you hide that? And they came after I stopped using it. On another note, I read more on it and found that it can happen because of a "purge" type effect, but (a) when is a good time for multiple, big pimples, and (b) when I get them, they aren't simple. They fester and are angry, and they don't just calm down and go away. They're problematic for weeks. For reference, I have had off and on issues with adult acne over the years, but I figured out what bothers my skin and haven't had pimple issues for about a year now, so I know it's this and possibly this along with another CeraVe product I tried -- PM Facial Moisturizing Lotion. (I'll note here that I got a couple of other items but didn't apply them to these areas, so I'm pretty sure it's not those. Those others include CeraVe Renewing Vitamin C Eye Cream and Renewing Eye Cream for Wrinkles.) I've used the PM Lotion before and had an occasional breakout, but wasn't sure if it was that or other acne issues I had during that time. However, I can say with almost certainty that this Serum is a or the reason for my current breakouts. I've attached 6 pictures to show the breakouts/pimples I have that are still healing over a week after discontinuing use so you'll get an idea and see that these aren't typical acne, breakout-area bumps but instead, are in spots you don't usually get individual, stand-alone bumps. No makeup, of course. Vulnerable and full face disclosure, so no gasps! lol If you want to try this, definitely do only one area for a week or so to see how you'll react, rather than risk acne all over your face. Perhaps try your forehead only, or your chin only, etc. I really wish it didn't affect me like it did. I don't have super-sensitive skin; only somewhat sensitive skin, with only a few products. So take that into account when you consider this product for yourself. I really wanted to embrace this one because with my aging skin, I would love to find a product that can help smooth things out. If this review helps you, please go ahead and give it a like! God bless and have a great day. We're all beautiful in our own way -- lotions, potions, or no-tions. ;)

Significant improvement in skin tone and texture
My mom had really bad acne scarring and pigmentation due to lack of sun protection when she was young. Used this on her and the results after 3 months were very encouraging, her scars and dark spots are almost all gone now. She has oily skin, so she didn’t have any trouble with the product applied directly to her face without moisturiser. For my combination skin, I need to apply a moisturiser at the dry parts before applying this. Highly recommended
