The Soma cube is a solid dissection puzzle invented by Piet Hein in 1936 during a lecture on quantum mechanics conducted by Werner Heisenberg. Seven pieces made out of unit cubes must be assembled into a 3x3x3 cube. The pieces can also be used to make a variety of other interesting 3D shapes and are given with the instructions. There are 240 distinct solutions of the Soma-cube puzzle. Dimensions: 2 3/4" x 2 3/4" x 2 3/4"

Just like what I grew up with
Amazing toy, it reminded me of my mother's Soma cube that I used to play with when I was growing up. It comes with a serial number you use to download an Adobe file with all the puzzles from the original (even the unproved Tower III puzzle). The only problem is that it (the cube) was relatively small, I guess I just didn't look at the dimensions of the product. If you need to know just get out a ruler or measuring tape and check the listed dimensions.Otherwise, I left this thing out on my coffee table at a party of mine to keep people busy. I knew it would be fascinating and addictive because not many people had this growing up. Again, the one I played with was my mothers so it was definitely old (sorry mom). Sure enough, the first person to play with this thing spent about 2 hours doing so, and he had a small crowd gathering around him. He was trying to complete the Tower III puzzle which I explained to him was unproved. He wouldn't let it go. I eventually ended up gifting this thing to him months later. Now I'm looking for a larger model =DThey just don't make toys like this anymore: educational, challenging yet simple to understand, no batteries required.

A classic - great brain teaser for young and old alike!
This is a wood version [very nicely made] of the classic soma cube. Great brain teaser for young and old alike...stay mentally alert by exercising the mind. Makes a great conversation piece - just set it down on a table and people can't keep their hands off of it! Best of all, age doesn't really matter - kids and adults are equally likely to solve it or delight in the agony of defeat. Fun, well made, perfect exercise to keep the mind strong.

Simple, done to perfection.
This is a perfect product! Well made, attractive, and fits nicely in its own wooden cage. The only improvement I could suggest is to include the shapes that it can be assembled into, but that is available as an internet download if desired.

some friends of ours had a Soma cube and we loved playing with it
When I was a kid, some friends of ours had a Soma cube and we loved playing with it. When I decided to look into getting one, I was pleased to find this one which is made of wood and well constructed. My daughter and I have had plenty of fun with it.
