Natural Lava Rocks for Fire Pit | 7 Lb. Bag of Fire Pit Lava Rocks | 1 Pack

I am not using these for grilling. I wanted them as a substrate for a Vanda orchid. You are not supposed to bury Vanda roots, but rather leave them exposed to air. You put them in slat baskets and the roots grow around the slats, I just wanted something below the plant to keep it up at the top of the slat basket instead of buried inside, and I'd read that lava rocks worked pretty well for this purpose. These are porous, as you'd expect, and thus weigh less than solid rocks of the same size. i like this because the pores capture a bit of water when I spray the plant in the afternoon and then slowly release it to increase the amount of moisture in the air around the plant's roots. The color is basically just what you see in the official product image. These are not particularly bright or colorful. (If you are using them for grilling, I guess that doesn't matter.) There was a little dust in the package, but not much. There weren't any tiny broken pieces on the bottom of the bag, either. These were large, whole rocks, ranging in size from about the size of one golf ball to about the size of two golf balls put together (the shapes are rather irregular, though). There are enough of these in the bag for me to support at least two plants this way. I am not sure how many Vandas I will end up with, but if it is more than two and I need to reorder to have enough rocks, I would definitely buy this same item again.

My father swears by them. He won't grill without them. He believes they are what makes his pork chops so delicious. They do even out the heat while personally I think it was the spices that my mom put on the chops, and he knew how long to good them. I'm not going to argue with a 98-year-old man, especially my dad. They were a good price and even if they weren't they made my dad happy and he was the one doing the grilling.

These rocks are a little bigger than I would like, but they look good and keep the system working. I used them to replace an older set which were much smaller. The fire pit is now lighting up much quicker and burning steady. I don't know if this is because I cleaned it from all the small rocks, or because it is more airy. Overall it works great.

What can you say about lava rock for a grill? Well, the stuff just works, probably like any other lava rock. No moving parts either! lol I used it for my Masterbuilt vertical smoker based on another reviewer's recommendation to help diffuse the heat from the flame. It seems to work fine for that purpose. It provides even heat and it can be hosed down after use to clean off some of the drippings. I don't really think that is necessary, but it can be done to clean out say fish drippings before smoking pork ribs. Make sure that you "season" it before your first batch of food. Basicaly just heat it up for 30 minutes over a high flame, then allow it to cool. It's then ready to cook with. This will help purge any bad chemicals/fumes from the rocks.

I bought them to use in my char-grill. Since they were smaller then an inch, I had to put cookie cooling racks on top of the rock grate so they wouldn’t fall through. They were a bit expensive for the quality, but I can’t complain as I didn’t have to drive to Timbuktu to get these.

I know most of the review reference these lava rocks for the BBQ, so I wanted to endorse this product whole heartedly as well for use in a gas firepit! Perfect size and consistency, color, etc. Only one thought - you probably want to order more bags than you anticipate, as they don't spread as far as you'd like (at least for my taste). Great product - just ordered a few more, and with Amazon Prime, how can you beat it??!!

We have a very small barbecue. It's 15 X 22 inches. The bag of lave rock is specifically for use in the old style gas barbecues. The lava rock goes on a grate above the gas burner. This sits below the cooking grate. The tines of the lave grate are spaced about 1 inch apart. In this bag I had 5 rocks about the size of a baseball along with about 1/3 of the bag that was 1/4 to 3/4 of an inch which is useless, because they fall through the grate. I had to break up the large rocks with a hammer to use them. I had to use old rock I had kept to fill the grate, otherwise I would have to use both bags. For the price charged, this is poor quality.

We bought a gas fire pit and it came with the glass. My husband wanted something more realistic and so we bought these. They are perfect and are much nicer than the glass. We wanted to have the look of "plenty" of rock so we purchased 2 and are very happy with the outcome. These are not small rocks, they are larger like you'd expect to see in a large fire pit. I also want to add that the price on these rocks are excellent. Very reasonable, we shopped around online as well as in the stores and theses are by far the best value for the money. We highly recommend them.

It’s red and black so I sorted it by colour but it’s great in my fresh water tank!

It's lava rock! What's not to like? Great price and arrived in 2 days. I'm using it for crafting and it's been exactly what I needed.
