It's a Tool Not The Gospel
This book came as a recommendation to me and I'm very happy π I went along and bought the book. It covers different plants with some images, alternatives to herbs ie different names based on country and so forth. "New years" feasts, wall washes and many more. My thoughts outside of the book, I was overwhelmed with certain content that I felt heavy workings but once I sat with it, that feel eased up.

An interesting story about a collection of botanical herbs.
This book helps you to reconsider the herbs you may have in your home and how you could use them, to enhance aspects of your spiritual life as well as you're physical.

Hoodoo magic for those who believe
Not for the weak of heart, and not for those who don't like witchcraft! A great primer in the Hoodoo tradition, and full of funny stories as well as useful spells.

Wonderful book
Fantastic peek into a cultural treasure: hoodoo and rootwork, or African-American folk magic. Cat Yronwode is extremely well-versed in the tradition, and this book is a comprehensive review of the herb-based work done in hoodoo.

Great on Hoodoo but not on European magic
This book is great in terms of spells and recipes and information on practical hoodoo. The reason it lacks full stars is that the author (at the start) discusses the problems of European magic but clearly does not know much about it. Her knowledge seems to be restricted to forms of new age and practices that equally frustrate many western magical practitioners both occultists and witches, but is happy to neatly paint all European magical practitioners with the same brush. One example being the three-fold law which is only something taken on by some forms of wicca and new age practitioners; though to speak for all people within those fields would not be acceptable. Essentially the author is only addressing one group of practitioners but stating its for the entirety of European practitioners. The reason this was so frustrating is because that Europeans are often accused of not understanding Hoodoo and not doing their research properly etc and yet this is one of the problems with this book.Rising past this however this book is a remarkable resource on hoodoo practice. I read a review that didn't like that this book focused on practical spell work but this is the strength of the book: highly practical and easy to use.
