Perfectly expressing our big mountain roots, the lightweight Guide Down Hoody provides warmth and comfort for extreme conditions. Updated with Marmot's treated water-resistant down, this hoody offers improved protection and an extra layer of insurance for unexpected conditions. When paired with a waterproof shell, this hoody forms an impervious thermal mid-layer and makes a brilliant cold weather jacket in drier conditions.

Lacking, for the price
On the plus side it's lightweight, reasonably warm by UK weather standards, relatively wind-proof and so far waterproof. The sizing runs slightly small and given that it's too much trouble these days for sellers to display the sizing chart I'd recommend going to the Marmot site and checking it out there.Unfortunately I'm between L and XL. I bought an XL to allow for extra layers, hoping that the neck and hem would be fully adjustable. They're not. A couple of loops of cord are apparent but these do nothing. The hood is enormous and comes down over the eyes, making you look like Kenny from South Park. Again, there is no adjustment and no strap to hold it down when not in use. If you're wearing a head torch and it's raining you have the choice of getting wet or stumbling along in the dark. And the zip. I hate these left-handed double zips. Nobody even knows what they're for, with people talking about absurd situations such as if you're caught up K2 and you need to whiz in a bush without hoiking your hemline. Unless you have your genitals protruding from your abdomen I can't even see this as an issue, and if you were up K2 in this thing you'd have more than a stained hemline to worry about - you'd be frozen solid and on your lying back like a dead beetle before you reached base camp.
