We never have to zap our dog. The vibration alone is enough.
Our 9 month old puppy was doing what puppies do, get into mischief. He needed some redirection so we decided to purchase this training collar. I was hesitant as I did not want to zap my dog. He is now 12 months old and it works great! We need to only hit the vibration button for him to listen on The First Command. (well technically, if he listened to The First Command I wouldn't have to vibrate him lol). We tend to keep our dog off leash because of the area we reside in. He knows the boundaries of his yard and, almost like an electric fence, if he were to cross the boundary we would give him a little vibration and he learned quickly! We only had to use the zap on him once when a bicyclist rode by and of course, he thought he was there to see him, and went to run after him. That was the one and only time we actually had to use the zap part. So if you are hesitant because you also don't like the sounds of that, just know that your pup will learn with just the vibration. One of the things I specifically chose this model for was the locator. We have Woods in our backyard and when I don't see where he is, I just hit the locator button and not only do I know where he is, that also is a learning tool which has him come running right back. The battery only lasts for about eight hours of use, which I thought was kind of low. On the plus side, it charges quickly, within an hour or an hour and a half. The directions are easy to read and detailed. We also got an extremely helpful training aid booklet. We had done our research and other models with the locator feature were much more costly. I would definitely recommend it.

Every upland hunter will enjoy these features.
I have been using the collar for about a month. I use it on a Brittany. He is our hunting dog and house pet. The range of the unit seems to be what was advertised. Some reviews see to doubt the run and point feature. I found mine to work fine. When the dog is running the beep is about every 5 seconds. On point the beep is about every 3 seconds. You need to listen for the difference. It would have been nice to change the tone instead of the timing. Maybe I missed that feature if it is in the directions. The sound is to loud for my needs. A rubber cap came with the unit to reduce the sound. The problem is that it kept coming off. When the dog goes through the brush it would get caught. I have now lost it. A volume control would have been better. My Dog is working well with the unit in the field and when we take him on trips. The controller works great and having it on your hand is very useful. I can carrier it and shoot at the same time. You can get your dog attention very fast.

Cheap Plastic Garbage
Pass pass pass. This is not a good training tool. I have been training bird dogs for decades and have used Trionics, Dogtra, Garmin & now this DT Systems RAPT 1450 Upland. This model DT systems collar is a considerable drop in quality, ergonomics & overall usability from the other brand training e-collars I have used. They claim lots of neat features, but they’re poorly thought out & cheaply executed. The transmitter is pure garbage. It’s made out of cheap squirt gun level plastic, the buttons are impossible to press—especially while wearing gloves due to their low recess height, the intensity wheel is too small , and the collar is cheap and not even really orange, it’s more yellowish. The transmitter takes a 9V battery and to access the battery compartment, you have to remove two inaccessible micro, near invisible screws…are they serious? I’ve tried 5 different brands of 9v batteries and none fully work, the LED lights up when you install the battery & then nothing. I bought this DT Systems RAPT for a new GSP puppy to replace my old 14yr old Dogtra T&B system, which still works great that my 12yr old GSP still wears, because it was about $75 cheaper than the dogtra systems and because of the rave reviews that Kat & Ethan give on the Standing Stone Kennels videos & website. However, I’m not sure that the folks at Standing Stone Kennel have actually ever really hunted with these DT system collars because they are just terrible. Stick to e-collar or garmin, or my personal choice, a Dogtra T&B. I returned this crappy DT Systems RAPT and purchased the Dogtra Dual T&B.

Nice.
Collar is super easy to use and everything works awesome. Beeper is super loud, rubber cover helps lighten the noise. Doesn't come with a case otherwise I would've gave it 5 stars

Five stars all around!
I haven't fully tested the range of this device, but it certainly does the job at 200-300 yards. The beeper is VERY loud; dog isn't a fan of it but the couple of times I've had to use it, she's stopped in her tracks and returned. If your needs are not as great as the capability of this products, you may want to find a less expensive item. I went with this due to a recommendation from my son who has used one for roughly five years now. It definitely works! I tend to use the 'vibrate' mode to get my dog's attention.

OK
I've used this in the field 3 times now. The guard/muffler on the speaker easily falls off in the field but doesn't seem like an essential part. Runs 3-4 hours before needing a recharge. The speaker/beeper is already failing/unresponsive but the rest of it seems solidly built.

I bought this to replace my old D.T. I purchased back in 2004. I could have fixed the charging connection on the old one I suppose because it still all worked fine, but I chose to just buy another one. Works great and keeps the dogs attention just by beeping it. I rarely have to use the shocking feature. D.T. makes a good product!

Works great
GSP took to it well. Use electrical tape on the beeper cap to keep it from falling off.
