Titanic: The Complete Story

One of the most in-depth documentaries about the Titanic disaster
After visiting the Titanic Exhibition in Las Vegas, I have been on a personal mission to learn as much about the disaster as possible. I have watched several documentaries on the sinking of the Titanic, and I have learned the most watching this two-part documentary included here than any other. It may seem dated, as this was filmed in 1994, although it was made during a time where a few Titanic survivors could still be interviewed. Every significant detail about the ship, those who made her, and her passengers aboard her ill-fated maiden voyage is discussed in full. I learned a lot from watching this. I only wish History Channel was as good as it was back when this was made, instead of fake reality garbage. There is also a third documentary included here “Titanic’s Achilles Heel” from 2007. Not nearly as interesting or as comprehensive about the disaster, although it is still a nice bonus to watch. For those who wish to learn more about the Titanic, definitely do not hesitate to pick this up. It would also be a great documentary for teachers to let students watch in a classroom.

No better Titanic story than this !
I love all stuff Titanic. In my experience, this is THE best story on Titanic and some of those that experienced the disaster. Exceptionally well made. I have watched this numerous times. I still own a copy on four VHS tapes as well.

Brilliant
I do like the titanic all my life. I first got at the old worthington library with my dayhab program, I luv it! I got last Christmas as a present and it's here to stay in my archive collection it has an older documentry on one disc and the other one about the archilles heel with divers and a little bit of it's twin sister britannic. The first disc originally made on vhs in 1994 by a&e while the second disc was originally made in 2007 by history. The set is made in 2012 to commemorate the the 100th anniversary of the wreck, but man, this is one of other favorite topics on more than just trains.

BETTER THAN MANY OF THE TITANIC PROGRAMS
I wasn't sure what to expect on this two disc set, but was pleasantly surprised with the programs. The first disc is in the 4 x 3 formatbut the picture quality was excellent; even the vintage films looked good. The first disc I believe was made back in the 1990s anddeals mainly with interviews with the surviving travelers plus a good long look at the events that led up to the sinking. The seconddisc deals more with the ship itself and possibly faults in its design and construction. Happy to say the conclusions was thoughthere may have been a weakness in the expansion joint designs (improved greatly on the Britannic) that apparently had little to dowith the accident. It seems that an unfortunate series of incidents happening at the wrong times probably caused the sinking. Theproducers said in conclusion that the ship was sound and should have survived but for a few oddly timed events. Anyhow, for the time the ship was quite well made. I wonder if welding, which was still in its primitive state, would made a difference if theplates were welded along with the rivets. The film said at the time there were some ships that were welded together but splitapart horribly; I think perhaps discouraging the weld method for the time being. The second disc was in the 16 & 9 format andI watched it on my HD computer monitor but could not expand the frame to fit the 16 & 9 monitor screen. But the picture wasbeautiful and very enjoyable. For those interested in Titanicology, I recommend watching A NIGHT TO REMEMBER, dated fromthe late 1950s but surprisingly accurate and with believable sets closely based on the Titanic's interior. The FOX version TITANICmade a few years ago is worth watching only if you want to see a very accurate view of the ships interior and exterior. Otherwisedon't bother; I thought the story, especially about the idiotic jewel, was awful. The mush story was ok, but not historical. Anyhow,I thought this set of DVDs was excellent and well worth the price. I got this and some other Titanic stuff from Amazon. And noDr Sweets in any of the programs...Thank goodness!! Enjoy.

Nice DVD---the whole Titanic story, and then some.
This set was an interesting watch. The first disc, a 2-part doc, details all the history from the early days of Harland & Wolff to well into the aftermath of the disaster. David McCallum's narration adds to the quality. The second disc---a modern team finds evidence of a major design flaw in the ship---was better than I thought it would be. Here and there, it's a bit tech-y, but it doesn't go overboard (I can't hammer a nail straight, and it kept my interest.) I wouldn't hesitate to recommend it for Titanic buffs.

Highly recommend
A very detailed history of everything Titanic. Fascinating to say the least. I am a big Titanic historian and this is a must have for any fan."To my mind the world of today awoke April 15th, 1912." -Jack B. Thayer, Titanic Survivor"I cannot imagine any condition which would cause a ship to founder. I cannot conceive of any vital disaster happening to this vessel. Modern ship building has gone beyond that."-Captain Smith, Commander of Titanic
