Prepara Evak Compact Glass Storage Canister, Medium, 6' x 3.75', 24oz

I have lg. and sm. and ordering med now. Finally a product that actually works. Air tight! True vacuum seal. Others claim to be airtight and are not. I highly recommend. Easy to use and 'many years old it's still like its brand new'! The seal is absolutely perfect and glass sparkles. I find them to be an elevated look in any kitchen. As a designer I appreciate the style. I love seeing my coffee beans in the large and tea bags in the small. Good price for a great product. A 3rd is on it's way.

UPDATED REVIEW After nearly 2 years of using this, I have to give credit where it's due. The container and seal have held up despite my skepticism. We use it quite a bit and like it. There's room for some minor improvement, but, still a 5 Star product. ORIGINAL REVIEW This item does what it's supposed to. However, the design could use some refinement. First of all, the seal is a silicone-based ring that requires force when attempting to pull the lid off. That force is required to reposition the seal to accommodate upward travel. The stress on the seal during this process and its long-term use will likely lead to seal fatigue. Therefore, the longevity of the seal is a consideration. A better approach may have been to use a replaceable O-ring (any seal is wear item) with a press-button air relief valve on the lid for use during the lid on/off process. This design requires a precisely round cylinder shape of the glass jar and that precision may present a challenge to glass the manufacturing process, I'm not sure. It just seems (at least on my unit) the force required for lid-travel (up & down) will ultimately lead to a bad outcome under the current configuration and some redesign should be considered. Other thoughts: In its current design, the elderly may have some difficulty with the level of effort required for lid removal and could lead to glass breakage if the jar were to slip during the process. Also, although the glass jar seems to be of adequate quality, the sticker label (in my case crooked) seems cheap; as does the lid itself. Although the packaging is impressive, the manufacturer could have at least taken a bit more pride in the workmanship and small details.

We've had one for 3 years and really like it. It does a great job of helping to keep the coffee fresh. However, the piston (for lack of a better word) on the new one was so hard to pull out I was afraid the handle would break as other reviewers have experienced. So I put the old piston in the new glass container and the new piston in the old one and both worked fine, that is, until I cleaned the old piston's seal. Then it became hard to withdraw from the new container too. I realized that the old piston seal and the old container had a thin film of coffee bean oil on them that allowed for easy removal of the piston without sacrificing the seal. I applied a little olive oil to make a very thin film--it doesn't take much--on the bore of the new container and that solved the problem.

I have a large Evak Glass Food Storage for my coffee beans and I use the small one after I grind up about an 1/8 of what I have at the time. This product keeps my coffee fresh and I like the size. I also like the compression that can be acquired. I haven't had the need to clean it, short of using my coffee brush to whisk some grounds off of the plunger unit. Yes, you can grind just a cup if desired, but I prefer to grind for at least 5 or 8 cups of coffee at a crack. It's just the way I do it.

Bought it as a gift for my mother because she’s a coffee maniac but she uses it to hide her nuts from my father So I think it worked out

I bought this product because I was happy with the 24 oz Evak jar purchased two years ago. This jar however doesn’t seal well, you don’t hear the air escaping when you plunger down the lid, and the lid sinks and settles unevenly. The other Evak jar I purchased two years ago is also a 24 oz jar but with several differences. The lid has a taller handle, it plunges evenly and you hear the satisfying sound of gas (air) escaping. The other difference is the price. If I choose the “buy again” option for the first jar I purchased, it’s over forty bucks. This same 24 oz Evak jar with the shorter handle is just under twenty bucks. Go figure. Is the “buy again” option a sucker button? Or is the Evak company just pushing out a cheaper product? To me, buying again is trust in a product. And they have lost my trust! Returning.

I LOVE this product! I blend my own mix of coffee (50% Maxwell House original, 50% New England Coffee Blueberry Cobbler). When the time comes to mix my coffee grounds, I just open up my Prepara Evak container and alternate scoops of coffee grounds, put the lid back on (leaving some air space), shake her up real good, then push the lid down to eliminate the airspace. Keeps my coffee fresh, convenient to use, looks great on my counter next to the coffee maker. Both the container and the lid are easy to clean (just make sure to take the lid apart for cleaning, it's easy). **Note: I was so impressed by this container, I decided to buy another one in a different size. I didn't pay enough attention to the description on the 2nd one, and ended up buying a plastic container. It works fine, but it's not as nice as the glass version. Just be aware that these are available in both glass and plastic. The glass is more expensive, and it is noticeably nicer.

I'd seen this on Baba or You Tube, I forget, but I ordered two of them immediately. I'd just bought myself the amazing BUNN coffeemaker and what better way to keep coffee fresh than this wonderful storage cannister? It's made of good thick glass, and the top slides down to press against the contents, thus removing any air. That keeps whatever's inside fresh; in my case, decaf coffee in one, regular in the other. Just push the top down as you use up the contents, then toss it in the dishwasher and refill. (Note: I love Amazon.ca. One of my first two containers arrived broken. I called Amazon and explained I didn't want to be returning broken glass, which my Amazon customer service rep understood. I couldn't believe it when not one but the entire order was replaced and at my door the day after next that I'd called!!!)

Exactly what I need and no issues after few months of usage.

I like this storage container but would have liked it a bit bigger. Not sure about glass as it could break. Would have preferred metal.
