Didn't fit properly, but can be made to work
BLUF (Bottom Line Up Front) - Didn't fit shifter properly, but can be modified for less than the cost of a Ford shift cable. NOTE: Shift cable can be adjusted (see below). Just not intuitive.Ever have one of those “projects” where it was out to get you?? I know you have and you’re not the only one! Nothing like having a vehicle up on jack stands for days while you are trying to figure out how to fix what should be a simple thing. >>Grumble, grumble, grumble<<So, the shift linkage on my 2004 F150 Lariat failed (fortunately in my driveway). Truck was immobilized. The shift cable uses plastic insert bushings that, evidently, are biodegradable. I know this because both shift linkage inserts crumbled in my hands and were liberated by Mother Nature. So, I couldn’t use a “bushing repair kit” because the bushings were off cavorting with Mother Nature. But they make a year and make specific replacement cable for the 2004 F150 Lariat (why do I always end up with vehicles that are unique production models???) so I got this one off of Amazon. After snaking the cable through the dash and firewall down to the transmission I thought everything was going to be alright. – But no! It wasn’t done with me yet by a long shot….Unfortunately, the funky little bushing part that fit over the ball ends of the linkages didn’t fit my specific fittings. It appears that there were two (2) styles of cables and at least two (2) revisions for this specific F150 model year. The cable ends kept popping off while I was trying the shifter. (Thank goodness I wasn’t driving.) But, since I actually had intact plastic bushings (even if they didn’t hold onto the shift mechanisms), I could use the “repair kit” and so I repaired my brand new cable in place. Finally I got everything buttoned up and tried to start the truck. – Nothing.Opened up the shift mechanism again and everything looked fine there. – Still nothing. Tried to manually force the cable into park and got nothing. Climbed under the truck and manually forced the transmission lever into place and it started right up. Tried the shifter again. – Got nothing. Looked desperately for some adjustment mechanism in the shifter and there was nothing visible. Finally found on YouTube that there is an adjustment “hidden” in the transmission end of the shift cable that allows you to adjust the cable specifically so the ignition interlock works. The guy online found it the hard way. No documentation on this “feature” in the 2004 Ford technical manual. Finally up and running. Thank you.

Does not fit
Get ready to wrestle with for an unnecessary and frustrating amount of time due to the fact it does not fit a 2004 model F-150 as the description says. Should’ve just paid the extra to get from dealership. Waste of time and money.
