Order of installation steps important.
I can't comment on the actual quality of the water without special instruments, and any tasting notes just feels subjective to me. I do have a few notes on installation to insure a proper leak free install. There are included fitting to attach to an existing copper line, but my instructions will be based on having an existing 1/4 inch compression line which is the standard size for ice makers. You need to purchase seperately an icemaker supply line to go between the filter to the icemaker. 1/4" compression on both ends as I have pictured. I chose a 12" length but any will do.*Don't forget to turn off the water supply going to the icemaker before removing it.There are plastic o-rings that go into the end of the filter fittings for the side that goes into the actual filter. Narrow side of o-ring goes in first and it should stick out about 1/8 of an inch.IMPORTANT: Connect the brass fittings to the supply lines before connecting them to the filter. The threads on the filter are just plastic and you risk over tightening and ruining the filter if you attach them to the filter first. The brass fittings connect firmly with 2 wrenches to the supply lines. For the actual connection to the filter I recommend hand tightening plus a little bit. If you turn the water on and get a little leak at the filter connection, then no big deal, tighten them a little more. If you over tighten here there is really no going back and you could damage the filter. The instructions say no Teflon tape on the filter connections. I didn't use the included tape at all because the compression fittings secure themselves with rubber gaskets. In this type of connection, tape can do more harm than good.Once the filter is connected to your supply lines, be sure to turn on the water briefly to flush the line into a bucket or sink. Gross looking black is normal, it is the carbon used for filtering. Turn the water back off and then attach to your fridge and you should be good to go.

Simple, economical and delivers great tasting water
This is a great item. I needed an in-line filter between our refrigerator and water supply. This filter and an extra icemaker supply line made a quick and economical solution - best part is now our ice tastes great! Quick and simple install with 2 icemaker supply lines

Installment
Pretty easy to install, small enough to keep out of the way behind refrigerator.. Taste much better then with out a filter,,3 star rating only because we have such nasty water, that sometimes even with a new filter you get a bad cube,, This was purchased for the sole use of the ice maker..
