Raspberry Pi For Kids For Dummies

Easy to read.

Purchased this as a gift for my 9yo. He absolutely loves it, and is really enjoying learning to program his Raspberry Pi.

Great book if want to get started in programming raspberry pi. Some good easy projects for kids. There a few challenging one - creating video game.

Great book for beginners - kids are getting into Python at school and Pi is a nice little project for them

I don't recommend this book for any new comer to Raspberry Pi 3. It's written for version 2 and after reading half way through it I realized Pi 3 is completely different. It is well written and some things are relevent of course but programming in the version of Python they use is not. The program does not even recognize most of the commands. If you're familiar with Python than you probably don't need this reference book anyway and if you are a tech dummy like this 70 year old man and just starting out on Pi this book is not a big help. Look for a updated version specificly for Pi 3.

This is a GREAT, easy to read book for kids wanting to learn about the Raspberry Pi and programming!

Easy to follow my 11 year old built his computer completely on his own.

Great beginners guide for our kids. Do note that by now, some of the content is a little dated. For example, some of the Python statements (like print) that are referenced in the book have changed. Not a big deal if you're technical, but if you're totally new to the computer world, you may get fed up and quit trying without realizing something like that! Wish there was a little more on PHP and Python and... the Mindcraft API was a little underwelming, though cool enough that there's any API all to play with, so I nothing really to complain about. So again... great beginning guide for kids. Lots of fun and some good reference material.

Muitos livros como este precisam ser mais diretos e tratar de assuntos que de fato é relevante aprofundando ao poucos. Não precisar alongar o assunto para detalhar coisas simples como o "asterisco está junto com a tecla 8". Há 30 anos atrás talvez isto fizesse sentido. No fim lê-se muitas páginas e aprende-se pouco. O livro é um overview de vários assuntos entre python, linux, sonic pi, scratch. Ao invés de entrar em vários assuntos, seria interessante que o livro focasse em no máximo dois assuntos, com exemplos e exercícios criativos e interessantes para que a criança possa consolidar o conhecimento e despertar seu interesse.

Unfortunately I can't really review the book yet. We bought our son a pi-top computer and the book was for use in conjunction with it. However, when we put the pi-top together, we found that it was really a cheap piece of useless rubbish that was unfit for purpose. The power lead supplied wasn't a UK one. There was a piece listed in the assembly instructions, a wifi dongle, apparently missing, which we looked high and low for. It turns out that this is now included in the raspberry pi, so changing the instructions to indicate the fact would have been helpful. There is a part wrapped in indestructible brown paper called an acrylic slice. The brown wrapping covered a significant scratch. When fired up, the screen worked fine, but after 30 seconds, ghosts and shadows obscured the screen so that everything had to be viewed through techno-fog. On contacting pi-top for some help resolving these issues, I have to admit that a very nice young lady tried to help via email whilst on her holidays and directed my enquiries to the pi-top support team. However, despite numerous attempts at meaningful contact with the 'support' staff, we have received nothing but a deafening silence. This was a childs present, and it wasn't cheap. So, sorry, I can't rate the book honestly as we haven't had the opportunity to open it yet, but when we replace the pi-top with something that isn't a pi-top, maybe I'll come back on here.
