Quantitative Analysis of Market Data: A Primer [Grimes, Adam H.] on desertcart.com. *FREE* shipping on qualifying offers. Quantitative Analysis of Market Data: A Primer Review: A clear and concise "10,000 foot" view of quantitative investment analysis - I can't recommend this book highly enough for its stated purpose of providing a clear and concise "10,000 foot" view of quantitative investment analysis. It is the perfect book for those of us who like to read a well written executive summary to broadly understand a topic and then choose which areas to investigate in more detail on our own. The book also did a great job of explaining the rationale behind several statistical concepts in just a few pages. As someone with an engineering undergrad degree and two masters degrees (comp sci & business), this book provided me substantial new insight into statistical concepts (that were likely overlooked, because for some reason textbook manufactures can't describe even a simple concept in less than 30 pages of dense, academic text). If all STEM topics were introduced with the method used by this book, we would have exponentially more engineers in this world. I hope Adam Grimes has a long, successful career as both a trader and writer. Review: this book is a good place to start - While a brief guide, this book is a good place to start. Don't look for details here.

Great but short .
This little book opened my mind about the potential of quant investing and shows me a new path ahead I must explore , for that this book is great ... but is too short!!

you complete your reading of it thinking that you could have spent the time better elsewhere. Not recommended
Very simple stats based. But lacks something, perhaps detail. Whilst the author indicates that the book will just cover some basics, you complete your reading of it thinking that you could have spent the time better elsewhere. Not recommended

A good companion to The Art and Science of Technical Analysis.
This book is very different from other trading related books I read sofar. I'm familiar with Adam Grimes' work, and as a matter of fact his view of market structure makes perfect sense to me. The strength of Adam's two books is multifold. Two aspects amongst many : * he defines clearly what an edge is, and how to check you have one. This is a topic of paramount importance, and hence shunned by almost any trading books which fall in the technical analysis category, and quite a few which pretend to teach systematic methods. * however, Adam has a firm grasp of the fact that the human brains (and body) are remarkable inference machines, and therefore a well tended for intuition, is the best companion of a statistical edge. I personally have read a good 300 books on trading, ranging from the good (schwager, Taleb on options, Ralph Vince, Clenow,...) to the useless (at least 90% of the rest, and yes, this includes a lot of "big" names), and Adam's two books are part of the few I am willing to dedicate multiple reading sessions and taking notes about, by hand, the oldfashioned way.

Helpful introduction to some key concepts
Is exactly what it claims to be. A quick introduction to many quantitative concepts and is very readable! If you are (or are not) studying for a CFA you will find the introduction to some of these concepts very useful.

A good read on how to analyse the market data with simple statistical methods from a long time master of the technique. Very easy to read even for newbies in trading.
