VORNADO is a brand that I will always invest in, for Life !
This is a Hard - Working Strong, versatile household fan, and we love it! It’s very quiet for its very powerful airflow - This fan is very easily adjustable, in speeds, and range of flow. It’s a great Lifetime investment for our family. We needed it for its airflow more than anything else and boy, does it deliver!I have several smaller personal VORNADO fans, for workspaces and hobby areas, too. Before I was born, and all through my life my parents kept and used a smaller, 10” metal VORNADO tabletop fan - I now have grandchildren of my own, and we are still using that lovely little 10” hard-working VORNADO tabletop fan.

Great Fan! Super Happy! Mom Loves The Handle!
Yes The Knobs To Tighten The Fan To The Base Need Improvement, They Need To Be More Of A Wing Nut That You Can Get Leverage To Tighten The Fan To The Base, You Can't Really Grab These Knobs And Get Them Tight! The Rest Of The Fan Is Perfect And The Motor Looks To Be More Beefy Than All Of Our Other Vornado Fans. The Handle Is Great For My 87 Year Old Mom To Move It Around. The Price Is High But If The Motor Is A better Quality Than There Older Design Because We Have Had Problems With The Old Motors And Our Local Landfill Is Always Full Of Bad Vornado Motor Fans.Would Be Great If Vornado Would Send Us Some Up-Graded Mounting Knobs But I Guess I Can Always Find Some Better Knobs With The Same Treads That You Can Get Leverage To Tighten Them Up Better, I Have Strong Hands But Mom Could Never Tighten These Because There Is Nothing To Grab Onto. Or You Could Just Use NUTS So You Could Use A Little Wrench? I Might Go That Direction But Don't Over Tighten It Or You Will Break The Fan Housing, That Might Be Why Vornado Didn't Want You To Be Able To Tighten It? Just Be Careful Not To Over Tighten It! Just Enough To Allow The Fan To Move With Resistance Should Be Fine! All In All Its a 5 Star Fan! The Motor Itself Looks To Be Heavy Duty And Much Better Quality.

This thing moves air!
I use this fan in the bedroom to help circulate the air from the AC, and it works wonders. I bought one of their smaller models about 15 years ago, and it’s still going strong, so I decided to pick up this one. The quality is just as impressive. The fan is designed for easy cleaning—everything comes apart so you can remove any hair or grit that builds up around the blades. On the lowest setting, it's whisper quiet, yet it still moves a good amount of air, comparable to a cheap box fan on medium or high. On medium, you'll hear a slight whoosh, and it creates significant air pressure—enough to push air through a comforter or light blanket from five to ten feet away. On the highest setting, it does get pretty loud, with noticeable blade noise and a strong whooshing sound, but the amount of air it moves is impressive. The build quality is excellent. None of the parts feel delicate. The switch has a solid, quality feel to it, the blades are thick, and the fan's body is made of durable plastic that seems like it could withstand a strong impact. The stand is a sturdy metal tube. Overall, this fan feels like a "buy it for life" product, not something you'll be replacing anytime soon.

Quality and performance!
Moves a tremendous amount of air, and especially considering how much air it moves, it's quiet. You can't go wrong with a sturdy USA made fan that pushes massive amounts of air.

The general purpose Vornado
We've had two standard household Vornados (model 280SS) for literally decades. For additional fan needs over the years I had been purchasing the ubiquitous $20 box fans. The box fans almost always self-destruct in a couple years (by that time, also, they have lost or broken their snap-in plastic "legs" which keep them upright). We still have and use the original Vornados daily. So I was looking for an additional fan that would last more than a few years. My Amazon searches weren't turning up what I had in mind. Finally I remembered "Vornado" and added that term to the search. That led quickly to this model, a step up in size and power from the household versions.Indeed it is. The symmetrical base that attaches to the sides of the blower unit is inherently stable. The only reason for my rating downgrade to four stars is that the blower unit attaches at points not in line with its center of gravity. Thus gravity will always tend to rotate the unit to point upwards. You must quite deliberately overtighten the knobs to compensate for this -- if you merely tighten the knobs, the blower unit WILL rotate itself upwards in use.Features that I love: the 10-foot power cord with ground connection, the carry-handle on top, and the very easy-to-turn three-speed control knob. It is also quieter than other fans for comparable air flows.UPDATED July 2024: Well, one of those Vornado 280's we had (the newer one, purchased in 1995) finally gave out. The motor emitted a high-pitch squeal for a few seconds, then stopped. My diagnosis is bearing failure because the blade is very stiff to rotate by hand (with unit unplugged). I could not locate the hint of a replacement motor online.Of all the current Vornado models, there is just one suitable to replace (and upgrade) the 280. Yes, I went ahead with a second one of these 293HD's. I even stayed with the green version (actually more on the teal side of green) because it's a very pleasant modern household look.
