The Meat Grinder Knife and Plate Sharpening System Fine Grind, #8 did not sharpen my blades. It eventually caused by grinder to break. I had the STX International Cadet #8 Electric Meat Grinder. Before it broke my grinder, all stone would do was leave lots of grit from the stone but the blades were still dull. I found it better and easier to sharpen on a whetstone. The stone locked up in my grinder and caused the it to jam and snapped a cog (which was plastic). I recommend not to buy.

This has it all over trying to hand sharpen your knives and sanding your plates. I have been butchering for decades and I wish I got this sooner.

Easy to use quick and simple

It rather does the job it is designed for, but the gap built between blade and front surface as result of thinning down of blade prohibits proper function of mechanism. Overall it is not useful. Do not recommend. Just purchase a new blade.

Terrible product

I soaked the stones for 5 mins in water. Tried to do the plates first but the stone broke as soon as I turned my grinder on. I like the concept but think the design is flawed.

There is no problem with the seller. The product is exactly as described. He arrived before the deadline. On that side there is nothing to criticize. The problem is with the design of the product. The central hole of the plate for the knife sharpening, is not so much the same size as the central shaft, which means that when you start crank, the central shaft has a certain play and therefore the knife is not sharpened to the same thickness on all the wings. Now let's say the hole in this abrasive plate is the right size, it would damage the end of the shaft, which it shouldn't happen. If the plate had a metal bearing (bronze, for example) the situation could change radically on the positive side. It is clear that such a change will affect the price of the product, but at least it would be usable. Without this metal bearing in the center of the plate the device cannot be used, now in the way it was designed, because it will damage both, the shaft and the knife, so a completely useless tool. That's why I think he doesn't deserve more than two stars. I'll try to ask for a refund.
