FLCL: Progressive/Alternative (BD/DIG)

In my old age I’ve discovered a lot of anime, not everyone but the ones that are just out there and a little crazy. This one FLCL is one of those and it’s really good and bizarre and for the money I think it’s great.

I didn’t even know that this existed until I saw it on my search page and checked it to see what it was. Flcl has been a standard measurement of coolness for decades! Posters and T shirts havre long been badges of honor amongst the true elite, but if I ever saw it I must have assumed it was a different release version, not a totally new thing!

Not quite as good as the original but almost as good which is incredibly high praise. Also they got the pillows to do the soundtrack... Enough said.

Some people seem to have beef with this not being “as good as” or “like” the original FLCL. If you want FLCL, then get that. This is it’s own iteration. Taken as it’s own thing, these two iterations, in my opinion are very good anime. I prefer Progressive to Alternative, but both are entertaining in their own right. Would I say that either are better than the original? No. But taste is subjective, so in the end you will need to judge for yourself. For me, personally, I like watching the progression it the 3 iterations, as they somewhat build off one another; elementary school to middle school to high school. They are distinct but connected coming of age stories filtered through Harko’s endless pursuit of Atomsk and Medical Mechanica’s endless attempts to takeover the planet.

This is a really good anime but if you're going into it thinking it's like the original first season then you might be disappointed if you go into it with an open mind and look at it as its own separate entity then I think you will enjoy it very much

The two final seasons of FLCL share a lot with the first. However, the creators have split the two main themes of the original and essentially made their own new series around it. Alternative focuses on eclectic art style and is visually filled with FLCL vibes. Progressive has the most coherent plot out of any of the seasons, and focuses on the coming of age aspect. I won’t appoint anything other than to say, if you enjoyed the original, then - as long as you keep an open mind - you will enjoy these. It took me a few episodes where I doubted things. I actually stopped mid-viewing to go watch episode one of the original - before going back to the sequels. It’s still FLCL. It’s still The Pillows. It rocks.

Information on this set is a bit misleading. Here goes. Yes, there are 2 Language options on this set. Japanese and English TrueHD 5.1. There are 2 English subtitle options, SDH and Translation. The information on the package is incorrect. Digital code is redeemable through VUDU. Progressive and Alternative are on their own separate discs. Presentation looks good, audio is clear. I enjoyed the show. It does have a different feel than the original.

Was overall impressed by how well this lives up to the FLCL brand. It's weird and endearing! Loved just how different each series is while maintaining that consistent humour!

Got this in the mail a lot sooner then was expected. It came wrapped and protected so there was no damage to the case. Opened it up and put it in the bluray player to make sure it worked and everything was perfect!
