Irritrol RD600-EXT-R Rain Dial 6 Station Outdoor Irrigation Controller

Great irrigation controller. Simple to program, excellent design and construction and reliable for many years of service. I have the same controller is toasty Tucson, and it still performs after 10+ years.

A pretty decent explanation on how to replace my old one ! Easy reprogramming instructions and I hate doing wiring ! There’s a how too on You Tube also that’s very good too ! Mine old one was 20 years old and this new one still screwed into original holes ! Very happy with this new one!

I installed this unit to replace an identical controller which had failed after 13 years. If I can get 13 years out of each of these in the extreme Arizona weather with 110° heat in the summer with sun shining directly on it, I consider that to be pretty durable. I don't think I've had anything else in my yard last that long (pool pump, pool filter, landscape lighting, hose reels, etc) I stayed with this unit because I find it very intuitive to use. There are so many programming options, with each of the zones being able to be set to their own watering times within each of the 3 different programmable intervals. For example, you can have Program A set to water once a week on Wednesday, and within that program you can have the grass watered for 10 mins, shrubs for 2 hours, trees for 3 hours. Then Program B could be set to water 7 days a week, and within that program you can have pots watered for 10 minutes. I use program C to fill up my fountain twice a week, I just run it for about 10 minutes each time with a bubbler to top if off. It was a lot easier than trying to run a new water line and installing an auto-fill system! It was a direcl plug-n-play as I expected, and only took me about 30 minutes to install. Here's to hopefully another 13+ years with this unit!

I love these controllers. The first one I bought was an indoor unit for my own home. Super easy to program. The only issue I ever had with it is for some reason Program B wont work (after about 6 years). Eh, whatever. My mother started having an issue with her ancient controller and after having looked at it and reading the manual for about an hour I decided SCREW IT! This external unit is her early birthday gift. (a little fun side story) So her external unit was mounted to the wall with a conduit going to a junction box then that box going to an outside outlet. Ok, no big deal. I remove the unit from the wall after detaching all the wires and work my way to the first junction box. Hum.....stranded wire? Ok, that's a first. Let me fix that.....I work my way back to the outlet.....stranded wire...WTF? Yeah....some moron ran an extension cord from inside the garage, out the wall and used that to power the outlet. So I had to remove all that, push the sprinkler wires into the garage and now I wasted a few bucks on an external unit but oh well because this unit totally rocks!!! It's not often you can install something like this and be 100% up and running within about 20 minutes total time. Happy birthday mom!

It is a direct replacement for my old RD600 however it did not come with keys to lock the panel. The keys I have for my old unit just turn freely as if there is no gear for them to grab onto. Needless to say, I don't know what I'll do to keep the panel closed during a storm.

I had an RD600 that was having intermittent problems. Repair was around $50 so was headed down that path until I researched the new replacement controller. Price was right for new and the older and new units are identical. Same box with same interface for conduit connections. The swap out took less than an hour. Old controller lasted 17 years in the Arizona heat. Super simple to program and expect this will last for several years to come.

The display of information on Amazon (I expect precise specs) did not tell that it is not compatible with European electricity. I had to get this information from the Irritrol customer service hotline. So I had to resend. The respective process was perfect and quick.
