I always look for something different to read every months to keep my mind exercised and to learn something new and different, on a wide range of subjects, every time I read a book. This is why I decided to read this book. First of all, I was intrigued by the title, I then read the plot to see if the title was matching my expectations. As a reader you, sometimes, have to judge the book from its cover and be able to read plots and feedback left from other people is very useful to make your choice. (Of course I try to avoid the risk of leave a book I started to read halfway through because is badly written or it is definitely not my cup of tea.) With regards to this particular book, I found it, overall, well written. The storyline is well explained and the characters are well developed. There are some unexpected twists here and there which make this book more involving. I particularly enjoyed the narrative part and the simplicity that the author has used to describe the environment that was surrounding the characters. I had such a nice time reading this book that, when I reached the words “the end”, I felt a bit sad to the thought that the story was finished and I had to “say goodbye” to those characters (I feel that when reading a book like this you ended up creating a particular bond with your favourite characters). To sum up, yes, I will definitely recommend this book to everyone who would like to secede from our reality and jump in this alternative one proposed by the author. Really enjoyed and I am now looking to read other books like this one. For all the above reasons I rated this book with 5 stars.

Breathtaking poetry
Where do I begin with The Prophet?First of all, let me begin by saying I really do not like religious poetry. I find that the constant references to God and a higher power irk me, as someone who's religion only believes in an ideal and not a deity. That being said, I absolutely fell in love with this poetry book. The writing was exquisite, an absolutely beautiful piece of writing that read as a story. Gibran has created such a remarkable world within this book, something that kept me hanging on every single word. It has made me question life, my morals, death, friendship, and every other topic that is featured within this small book.I cannot explain how much this poetry has spoken to me, has made me think and discuss topics that have always been left unsaid with friends. I have read the poems in this over and over and would more than gladly read this book again from cover to cover. This is a work of pure genius, and I think it's something that should be shown to everyone, especially as it is inspired, partly, by Islam. It's a book that shows religion is about care and love, not destruction.I cannot recommend this book enough. Everyone should read this, no matter what their interests. I wish I had been given a chance to study this in school and to have myself enlightened long before I happened to find this when I did a week or so ago.Gibran's writing is absolutely stunning and I am left in awe and self-reflection. Please, please, read this book. I recommend this for every one.

Brilliant!
Translated into forty languages and never out of print since its 1923 publication, The Prophet is one of those books that I 'should' have read years ago. I'm not sure if I would have appreciated it so much in my twenties though as I do in my forties. Gibran's name has cropped up relatively frequently in other novels I have read over the past couple of years so I thought it was time to give his writing a try. To be honest, I expected to be underwhelmed, reading as if this was a school-chosen book. I did not expect his words and ideas to be so easily accessible, to feel how relevant this book is to my own life, or to enjoy the gorgeous prose and imagery so much. The Prophet is essentially a religious book so, as an atheist, I made assumptions before the first page. In reality, while Gibran assumes the existence of God, he does not hammer home any particular faith as 'the true way', but rather addresses various aspects of life - love, work, marriage, food - and has his Prophet offer ideas regarding simple and humane ways of living in harmony with our communities. The simple question and answer structure is concise and effective. I am happy that I will now have a much greater level of understanding when I see Gibran's name dropped elsewhere and I found much food for thought in his philosophy. I can quite see why The Prophet has such widespread appeal. It's a beautiful book.

A Chilled And Relaxing Read
De-stress and lose yourself in the beautiful, light prose of 'The Prophet'. A counter culture favourite for when times are hard and you are looking for a chink of light on the horizon.
