Buyer beware! Verizon tags serial#s and WILL STILL charge a rental fee
Buyer beware! I've been dealing with this nightmare with Verizon for months now. I initially bought a router through ebay that Verizon (erroneously) claimed was stolen and is "Verizon property" and I would be charged a monthly rental fee. I returned to the ebay seller and purchased another one from Amazon. Verizon is now saying THIS router is ALSO "Verizon property". So, what the customer service person told me was that even if Joe has purchased his router outright, Joe can't sell the router to ME- so I will be charged a "rental" fee for my purchased router- even though its not Verizons router. Per Verizon: Verizon has a strict policy when it comes to exchanging equipment. When equipment is purchased on an account, that router is only able to be used on that account. When others sell the router 3rd party, or find our routers lying around from a previous tenant for example and placed on a different account, we in return charge a rental fee for that router since it is no longer being used by the original subscriber. This is our policy across the board. It may not be ideal for some, but that's Verizon's process.SO- you can NOT get out of the rental fee by purchasing a 3rd party router.Unfortunately while I was able to return the one I got on ebay- I am NOT able to return the one I purchased here on Amazon because its not defective- so I'm out all the $ I paid for it.

Problem that remains unresolved - check with Verizon before buying Routers on Amazon
I purchased this router so I could lower my Verizon cable bill. I returned my rented router to the Verizon store. I plugged this one in and it worked right away. For months Verizon kept charging me rental fees. I would spend time every month challenging the fees over the phone. Finally Verizon told me that the man I bought this from did not own it and he had no right to sell it to me. Verizon continues to charge me router rental fees. I intend to dispute the charge for this router with either Amazon or my credit card company. Verizon says this is becoming a big problem.

The router itself is excellent. Range is good
SAVE $10/MONTH RENTAL FEE FROM VERIZON! No brainer...Recently switched from Comcast to Verizon. Verizon offers to sell you a router now for $199. Spoke to Verizon tech about using purchasing my own modem/router from Amazon and he gave it the thumbs up. Bought a new router from TOPLASELLER for $130 w/shipping. Installation was a breeze. When you get your router call Verizon and speak to technical support to provision your new router. Leave your old router connected at first. Technical support will release the IP from it. You then swap the cables to the new router and technical support sends a signal to the new router. Youre done! Now get transferred to billing. Tell them you bought your own verizon modem/router and tech support got it up and running and you wish to return the old one and modify your bill to eliminate the $10 monthly rental fee. They will send you a return box in the mail. You just saved $10 a month and this router at the $130 price tag pays for itself in 13 months! No brainer. The router itself is excellent. Range is good, speed is very good. No hiccups this far like comcasts aweful gateway router. Delivering the speeds I payed for and verified using a speed test tool. Highly recommend.

Your best bet to the Verizon FIOS internet
If you are getting a new connection of Verizon fios, I recommend you buy this item and have it ready before the cable guy comes to connect it. That way he will do it for you and you will not have to bother itBut if you already have FIOS, and paying rent for router, you can call Verizon and tell them you want to return their router to stop paying the monthly rent. They will send you a UPS kit to return the router. And if you dont have time to buy this immediately, take one on rent from Verizon, pay rent for a month, and meanwhile buy this router and replace the rented one with yours. This is what I didIt comes very nicely packaged with the wifi name/password etc details printed on a labelNote that in order to replace your existing working router with this one, the instructions are available on the verizon site as well. But what they dont mention to you is that there is something called "release" of the old router before the new router can start connecting. If you dont do this, your new router will keep showing "orange light" which means internet is not connected. Easiest way is to leave it like that (new router connected and old router removed) for a few hours. Thats when the old router's connections are "release" and your new router starts working. I learnt this the hard way (after doing some googling around) and could not properly "release" the old router. Note that to "release" the old router, you have to connect it again. So, after a few tries, I just removed the old router, connected the new router and went to sleep. In the morning, it was working.....as easy as thatThis techincal input above is to make you feel confident and not to deter you from buying it. Go ahead and save the 40$ extra that verizon asks you for this same router if you purchase from them

Did not work well for Verizon FIOS. Software is for Frontier.
This looks like a brand-new Quantum FIOS router, exactly the kind I'm renting from Verizon. However, the software is a version for Frontier cable. I plugged it in and it appeared to work. However, it constantly had problems where it randomly couldn't find a website, even though many others worked. The signal strength was much weaker than my original router. And it occasionally would lose the broadband connection and I'd have to reboot it. I called Verizon tech support to see if they could figure out the problem. They said they couldn't reach the router even though they saw the IP address. They couldn't upgrade it with Verizon's software. I tried messing with DNS, refreshing DHCP, etc. Nothing helped.I bought a router straight from Verizon and it works perfectly. It's 2X the price, but zero issues. I really wish this one had worked, and I still don't know what the problem is.
