Alesis QX61 | 61-Key Advanced USB/MIDI keyboard Controller

I am a long time Ableton user (since version 3) and I"ve used many different midi keyboard controllers over the years and I have to say this one is probably the worst I've used. This controller even comes with a light version of Ableton, and still I was unable to get this thing to work with the software consistently. Often, in the middle of recording it would get hung up (stuck) on a note. Many times it would not be connected upon opening the Ableton software and many times it would drop connection when switching from one record armed track to another. The only to way to remedy this is to turn off the keyboard and turn it back on. I can tell you, I turned this thing off and on almost every time I used it just to get it to work. Who wants to go through that?Icing on the cake - the drums are also very dodgy i.e. they didn't always send a signal - hit and miss.Cherry on top - Manual midi mapping (in Ableton) also did not work as well as other controllers I've used and even the Ableton midi automap provided on Alesis's own site did work. I was never able to get transport controls to work consistently (works one time and then other times no.)Final remarks - In this day and age, you should be able to buy a midi controller that automatically maps and works with the host software seamlessly and effortlessly. It is possible I did something wrong (or didn't do something) but I strongly feel that it should work out of the box without having to download a bunch of stuff or do a ton of research online on how to get it to work properly - hence the one star. I am actually a fan and satisfied customer of several other Alesis products but I have to say they dropped the ball on this one. No response from customer support + product that doesn't work = return to sender.

I ordered this midi keyboard during a time when it was on sale. I must say for the price I paid it is well worth it. This is the best midi keyboard I have owned. Easy setup, custom integration for most DAW's, and veloicty-sensitive keys which is great to capture midi notes the way they were played. If you are hesitant to buy, don't be. Alesis's warranty coverage is good for 1 year from purchase date. You do have the option to buy additional warranty from retailer.NOTE: Register your product online at alesis's website, and get a FREE downloadable copy of XPAND for windows and mac. I just found this out after 6 months lol this product is well worth it!

I really really wished this did the things it was supposed to do.FIRST, the keyboard had 2 broken keys when I received. Amazon replaced the item fairly promptly.SECOND, the MIDI in/out ports (which I should have checked when I received the item) are NOT functional!!I can't return the item anymore so I'm stuck with this thing that only works partially.My intention initially was to use this just with a DAW, so the first few weeks, the USB connection was the only one I used. It worked great. But now I'm trying to incorporate hardware synths and the fact that the MIDI ports do not work AT ALL (I even have a little box to test MIDI signal) is very, very disappointing. Alesis notoriously has bad support as well. DO YOURSELF A FAVOR - SPEND A LITTLE MORE MONEY AND BUY M-AUDIO OR ARTURIA. I've owned both of those and I've gotten more than my $'s worth with those.

I use it with Reason 8 as my controller. I have "tweaked" the latency as far as I can. The Keys are so Mushy and you have to fight it to keep up with Music that you write. If you need any speed, this is not the controller you need or want. Wish I could send it back, but it sat in the Box waiting for the clock to hit the right time to start using it.!

thanks a lot for the item, im from mexico and the price is very well, all in mexico is a very expensive, i like it so much and now i go to learn how to use this because im begginer in this type of product before i use a keyboards guitars but never a midi controller,thanks a lot all very very well...

It was very disappointing that when I received the keyboard 2 of the 4 trigger pads were stuck in the on poition. I Went through the return process, drove across town to ship it back. After waiting a week for the replacement keyboard, I connect the keyboard only to find the replacement keyboard had defective pads as well. Now it's back across town to dump it off at UPS. Thanks

I'm using Native Instruments Kontakt and Reaktor and I was using an old Yamaha keyboard from the 90s, in a very basic MIDI mode, and it worked up to a point. But now that I'm using the QX61 I've found out what I was missing. The QX61 integrated seamlessly with my NI products without any messy power leads and I'm able to easily map the NI virtual controls onto the QX61 sliders and knobs.The QX61 has velocity processing too, so this is a new dimension that my old Yamaha didn't have, in addition to its light weight.Using the software and playing is some much easier and more fun now.Best £120 or so I've spend in a long time.

The keys are touch sensitive and have a nice feeling. I use it with the ipad together with the power adaptor and it works perfectly. I have read some forums about issues with the sustain, but I use it with the sustain and it works very well, no issues

Works well, had to read up some of the best ways to set up with PC, but when done the quality of the keyboard is excellent. The weighting of the keys is sufficient.
