does this use have a ground or is it just two wires

I installed this switch a long time ago, don't think it has a separate ground terminal. I used a metal box and grounded it as well as the circuit.

Will this work,with a modern 3 hp, 220 volt single phase table saw?

The amperage draw of your motor, I would assume, for a 3hp single phase motor should be ~ 3000 watts. Converted to amperage @ 220 volts would be <14 amps. The switch is advertised rated at 20 amps for a 220 volt circuit so you should be good. Be advised you will need a DEEP box to mount this switch. It takes up considerably more room than a conventional one, but it is well worth it to get the paddle switch stop feature. Try to get one that is dust tight too.
