Great educational technology for my 7 year old boy
I was a little hesitant to buy this roybi robot because of mixed news I read about voice recognition. But my son who is now 7 was persistent in getting this and I am very happy we did. The day the robot arrived, my son could not stop jumping and screaming in excitement. I got this for him as a surprise so he was overly excited. And now he sleeps with his roybi while listening to bedtime stories. I am planning to use this for homeschooling for the next academic year. Weâve been working with roybi for the past 3 weeks or so and I wanted to share my experience here.Installation:The out of the box experience was fantastic. The product is very elegant and the packaging looks great. They seem to have thought about every detail and the most interesting part is it comes with an adoption certificate. My son really liked it. The installation was very easy. We just turned the robot on, installed the app, and asked for a qr code to scan. Then we were ready to play the lessons.Lessons and content:The content was a little basic in the beginning but my son enjoyed it. It started asking him questions like his favorite food, color, etc and shared its own favorites. I guess this is the way they encourage children to get to know the robot. I thought it was cool. We only see 2 weeks of lessons at a time but after we finish those more lessons load. After the second week, we started seeing content become more complex. So far we learned currencies, holidays in different countries, types of music, and more. So far, I feel the content is good and gets the attention of my son. He normally has so much energy and doesnât sit down. The only time he sits down and pays full attention is when he interacts with roybi.Voice recognition:The technology is good for us. I do notice that sometimes it does not recognize what my son says in the first try and then it gets it next time. We also tried to replay those lessons and then it worked. My thought is the technology gets better after a while. It is not a big deal for us because we also practice patience and listening when we learn with roybi. It turned out to be a great practice time for us.Whatâs missing:I hope the company adds more stories and allows us to play past content. I contacted their support and he said this feature will be added soon. Great customer service and they respond very fast even on the weekends. Also, I really hope they add a feature to add my own lessons for my son.

Poor quality
I am very upset with myself for not trusting the reviews. Such a waste of money. I got this for my granddaughter who is autistic with hopes that it would help her but thatâs impossible to do if it donât work.1. She pushes the hidden button IF it works it constantly says âdownloading the content please waitâ2. Her father changed it from 5 GHz to 2.4 Still doing the same.3. Not being used and sitting at the table every few minutes it says âwe are now in Roybiâs worldâ so I have to turn it off.4. Looked on the app trying to find things that would help her with her learning and It just keeps loading and reloading and most is above her level.5. It says itâs for 3yrs to 8 which is why I got Roybi. From what I read it was designed with Autistic children in mind. ABSOLUTELY NOT!!!6. When she speaks to Roybi it canât even hear her and keeps repeating the question. And she has literally screamed trying to get it to hear her.On their website it says â We're developing an exciting pilot program for students on Autism Spectrum, ADHD, and Speech Disorder.â trust me when I say it is NOT Roybi! It also says â If your school offers programs for special needs children, we would love to work with you!â. Well her school does and they will not answer any of my messages to help so Iâm feeling like this is absolutely not true.I am very upset not just cus I waisted my money but I feel this is very false advertisement. My granddaughter was so excited to learn with Roybi and it only let her down. That upsets me more than the money đĄ Giving it a one star is not what it deserves except I did receive it packed well. Great for learning Chinese with Culture!
My boys love Roybi! They especially love the responses he gives when they turn him upside down. I love how easy it is to get the lessons downloaded on the App, and the little bite sized Chinese lessons are short enough that my boys donât lose attention, while still teaching them enough new words per lesson to be worth it. Theyâre also short enough that repeating them for review doesnât bore my kids. Having the words spoken by a native speaker of Standard Mandarin is also very important. The battery life of Roybi is also fantastic! He got put aside while we were gone for the Holidays, and after a month, still had plenty of battery!

What a disappointment!!
I was so excited to get this for my grandkids! It is cute, but then I found out that they each needed their own! Now that I have them, they donât work unless plugged in AND you need separate accounts for each one. Not sure why the battery life is even a question? It wonât run on battery! They canât take it with them anywhere or even unplug! Definitely not worth $100!! Such a disappointment!! So, update, there is a button that is under the hat, that you can't see!! WTH?? So, it can be used when unplugged, but it is so difficult to use that the kids can't do it on their own. It is not user friendly! So far they seem to get the same lesson, for science, over and over. With the delay to respond and the fact that it is hard of hearing, it is just too difficult for a child to use! So disappointed!!
