A classic collaboration in impeccable sound quality
A wonderful SACD in stereo and mono versions of this classic album.

Nice tone
An excellent recording in mono and stereo. The mono might have a slightly richer tone . The stereo seems a little artificial with the horn to Johnny Hartman's right and the piano on his left. The Soundstage is broken up. Today I suspect the left and right might be mixed for more continuity. This is a great album, you won't be disappointed.

Hybrid SACD of classic Coltrane and Hartman
This is the only recording that own of John Coltrane and Johnny Hartman, so I have no basis for sonic comparisons of the vinyl or standard CD. I played the SACD on a Marantz SACD player and was impressed with both the music and the sound quality. Hartman to my ears is a sort of more serious verision of Nat King Cole with a rich baritone. Coltrane's sax fills are tasteful and each musician complements without getting in the way. Their version of Lush Life is definitive for me. Highly recommended.

The Mono Versions Included Here are what makes this special!
Of course, these performances are among the greatest in recorded jazz history. And of course, having the Super Audio hybrid which will play on any CD player is incredible. But what makes this version the one to get is the availability of BOTH the stereo AND Mono versions on this CD!Many of the early Impulse albums had poor stereo mixes, very poor indeed. The Mono is PERFECT, giving excellent balance and staging of both Hartman's voice and Coltrane, Tyner and the rest of the quartet. If you ever listen on headphones, you must have this version. For everyone else, you must have this version. Someday, this version will be highly sought after and go for big bucks. Get it now.

ONE OF A KIND COMBINATION OF JOHNNY HARTMAN(VOCALS) & JOHN COLTRANE ON SAX.
The only LP album and now CD featuring jazz vocalist Johnny Hartman along with John Coltrane on sax. I heard a selection from this cd on WRTI-fm (NPR) radio and immediately ordered cd from amazon.com. This is a very relaxing and smooth, soothing cd; great to listen to when you have a stressful day at work and wish to unwind listening to this cd along with sipping some quality 12 year old scotch whiskey. Does life get any better....I think not!!!

Introduction to SACD
Well this is my first SACD and I must say I am impressed. Compared to the regular CD's that I own, this sounds a lot less digital and I can listen to it for hours just like vinyl records. The mono songs on this SACD is the Gem.

Only (7) songs on this disc, so be prepared!
This was somewhat disappointing, NOT the quality of the recording, but the content. There are only (7) total songs on the entire CD. The first 7 songs are in MONO, and the SAME 7 songs are then presented in STEREO, so a total of 14 tracks, but only 7 songs, a rip off in my view, but if you want 7 great songs, beautifully sung, in fantastic SACD, this is the right disc. Hopefully the warning will prepare you for only 7 tracks! Enjoy the music.
