Should be required reading for “sponsors”
I’ve bought and given away about six copies over the years. I still listen to it regularly on Audible! Jack’s knowledge of the meaning, context and history of the twelve steps is unparalleled. My program has benefited greatly from this book and in turn completely altered my approach to walking others through the steps. A Principle Of Recovery truly helps me as an atheist/ agnostic to work/ live the twelve steps in a manner that aligns almost seamlessly with my belief system and has assisted me greatly in saving my own life.

A Great Read if You are in Recovery or want to Understand the 12 Steps
This book is a great read for anyone that is interested in learning about the 12 Steps of Recovery as written by Jack Grisham. He is great at keeping you engaged by adding his personal stories in his writing.

A must read!
The best book out on life and recovery! I could not be more pleased by the no none sense approach to the 12 steps and recovery, thank you, Jack G. for writing this book!

Good read
I read American Demon first, and although I don't struggle with substance abuse, I've had many friends and family deal(ing) with it. Very good book.

An Ice Cool, Fresh Breath Of Air
A must have! I thoroughly enjoyed reading this book. As someone who has been in recovery for many, many years, I have read many, many books; including the obvious reads (i.e. "There's More To Quitting Drinking Than Quitting Drinking" and "A New Pair Of Glasses" etc, etc) and Mr. Grisham's book is a complete ice cool, fresh breath of air. Jack writes with a precise blend of humor and with deadly earnestness about the 12 steps and the transformations as the result of working them. I was kept locked into this book as Jack shares his experience strength and hope through various anecdotes. Most of all, I was able to relate to his stories (relating is a must for those of us in recovery) and I believe most would be able to have the same experience in identifying. This book will also come in very handy when taking others through the steps. You need not be just an alcoholic to get the message; you can apply this to other 12 step programs as well (drugs, co-dependants, gambling, sex). This book is up there with the aforementioned classics. A permanent part of my "toolbox."

Wonderful book, up the sober punx
This is a really entertaining and insightful accompaniment to the Blue Book for people who are following 12-step recovery programmes. For me as a punk rocker in recovery, this is a powerful tool because the terms of reference and the language are so much more in tune with my worldview than those of the Blue Book itself, invaluable as it is. Jack is a sarcastic, irreverent and very human guide, neither cocky nor afraid and very much aware of his own flaws - it's about progress not perfection after all!
