Great toaster oven, gets everything right
What a great little toaster oven! The size is good for a small oven, the controls are easy to turn (though the labelling is so small you may need a magnifying glass to read it) and the handle stays cool enough to handle comfortably. The splash guard over the heating element is a good shape to protect it. It toasts nicely and the settings for toast darkness are right. Overall, I could not have asked for a better toaster oven for this price.

Efficient and compact ,good for a small counter . Heats up immediately.
Its quite a bit smaller than I was expecting but we have a very small kitchen so thats ok,hard to fit the four slices it advertises unlesss the are small slices! It has been used for 10 days now and its efficient, heats up immediately, and browns quickly . Be warned ,watch it or lower heat as it burns if anything is too near top element ! Its quiet except for ping when it turns off but thats same with all toaster ovens in my experience. Good price and so far so good ,hope it lasts longer than Black and decker we had before .

The knobs are very easy to use, making it simple to set the desired time and temperature. The overall design is both sleek and functional, fitting well into my kitchen space. ANGRY WHITE LADY REVIEW.
I didn't start out angry when we first got this toaster oven. In fact, we loved it and it instantly became one of our most loved kitchen tools. It made perfectly, reliably toasted bread and tortillas every day for the past 10 months. Then one day, foul, grey, plastic-smelling smoke started coming out of it. Just a little at first, then very quickly it became LOTS of nasty, stinky smoke. First I looked at possibly buying an Asurion plan, which would mean paying for two months (at least) of coverage @ $17/month, then waiting a whole month for coverage to kick in before even getting an agent to possibly reject our claim. That didn't seem like a good option, so I read the fine print in the Hamilton Beach warranty. They REALLY cover their asses, so chances are slim they would do anything for us but we could send them the toaster, though they absolutely will not cover shipping which from California would be $40 one way. TL;DR WE PAID $70 FOR A TOASTER THAT IS GARBAGE AFTER LESS THAN A YEAR. If you read the lower ratings you'll see that our story is not unique! This is a junk product that has a short lifespan so it's basically a waste of materials, time, money and a safety hazard to boot!!! I could not be more unhappy about this. It should be pulled off the market. IT SHOULD'VE BEEN PULLED OFF THE MARKET YEARS AGO. I see they've dropped the price on it by $10 since I bought it so it's obvious they know they're selling GARBAGE.

Ok but limited
I had an old Hamilton Beach for over ten years. It had four heating elements and plenty of room before the door got weak and it finally died. Hastily purchased the same brand but like many consumer items today they just get cheesier. Pay attention to that fool wire rack. With the additional guards on one side you really cannot lower it enough to cook anything with any height. I cook chicken halves and they just won’t fit at all. The rack is evidently designed to hold a drip tray when broiling. If you can put such so close to the heating element then you should be able to bake ..generally at 350, at that bottom of the drip tray level as well, my Pyrex baking dish ( 8.5 x 10.5. Has handles ) should be able to sit at that same height off the element as the potentially flammable spatter adhering to the unit no matter how careful. Plus gunking up the rack which means ongoing cleaning. That would leave plenty of room above the nasty drip tray to accommodate a small casserole dish or anything with a bit of height..my 1/2 chicken would fit. Actually the notion and design of this drip tray configuration is so unnecessary if they provided a small broiler pan with its own insert and drip tray. I have several from older toaster ovens and they work just fine. No ongoing cleaning of the main and only rack. This unit would be better off with just a plain wire shelf ..even two… and a better choice for extras.. even if sold separately. I am tempted to cut off those wire drip tray hangers and use the shelf as years of design have proved useful. But on this model the lower tray setting is limited. Flip it over and it should be fine for baking at medium temps but those wires to hold the drip tray get in the way. In fact trimming the rack and turning it upside down can add approximately 1/2” to height. It is not designed to flip over but it could work with lighter weight pans with weight evenly distributed . So many things are designed by those who likely never have to use them. New and improved isn’t always a good thing. My old Hamilton Beach worked fine on bake with only enough space to keep the rack off the elements. Still looking around for a basic machine ..don’t need a full mini oven. ONE plus to many of these they actually have mechanical knobs instead of stupid touch pads .. a knob you just set it for toast when you find the right setting..only having to change it when you put different bread in. .. with touch pads the item will not always remember your setting for the next batch of bread and you have to constantly re set it to the same setting.. Simple appliances don’t need touch pads!!!!L As to getting hot. All toaster ovens do to some degree…none are really insulated and to expect it to be insulated is silly. Regular toasters can get warm as well.
