Great bag for my needs. Read reviews before buying, it may not be your cup of tea
2 year update:Still Loving the bag. It's become the designated tech bag for the laptop, accessories, tablet and Kindle. It lives in my vehicle for when I've got downtime.Original revier:After reading the reviews I decided to pick this bag up instead of the smaller version, glad I did! Bag looks good, materials look and feel good, stitching looks rugged and overall it's a great little bag.I was replacing my mil-tech brand assault pack, which looks like any basic military assault pack, but I wanted something a bit smaller. I bought this bag for running to work with my laptop and various gear, which it's well suited for. I easily fit my Dell XPS 13 in the laptop sleeve, and I bet it'll fit a standard 15 inch laptop, even if it's a bit tight. Besides that I keep a smart phone, USB cords, laptop power supply, large logitech mouse, beats bluetooth head phones, a med kit and other junk. I could fit a change of cloths or a jacket as well if need be.I wouldn't take this on a trip, unless I had a second backpack or duffel. My assault pack was great for that use being as expansive as it was, but I didn't want a bag that big for back and forth to work or the coffee shop. I also don't suggest this as a day hike pack. I use my Osprey day pack for hiking, it's far better suited for climbing than this bag. Walking around town may be fine, but I can already tell you that the bag will make my back hurt on a real hike (like a day hike up Mt. Monadnock or something).Things I like:The bag looks niceConstruction quality looks appropriateGenerally minimalist designCurved shoulder straps are comfortableRubber bottom is a nice optionThe bag stands on it's own, much better than flopping overConstructive Criticism:I'll agree with one of the reviews I read, two zipper pulls on the front pockets would be much better. You need to be conscious of what you're doing when opening the top small pocket, otherwise stuff will fall out. Not a deal breaker, but for future design considerations.Cell phone pocket could be a little bigger, my Galaxy S5 with spigen case is a tight squeeze.Side pockets fit a standard 100ml Nalgene. Again, it's a tight fit.Carry handle could be longer, it's a little hard to grab with my big mits.Bottom Line:Great bag for my intended purpose. If you want a bag to fly, take on road trips or hike a trail, this is not your best bet. If you need a coffee shop bag for your smaller laptop, plus a handful of accessories, then this thing is great.

Perfect Commuter Backpack (all weather)
I do a lot of walking in my commute. I've been using this backpack for about a month now, as my other one was just too worn out. I like just about everything about this backpack. It's super durable (I mean, it's Carhartt, right?)The top, main pocket has two zippers. The bottom two only have one. The main pocket has three divided areas where you can separate out your commute/packing gear. There are two mesh pockets on the side. I use them for my sun umbrella and a bottle of water. Most of the stitching is double stitched. Wear points have a reinforcing stitch (like where the straps attach to the bag). Now water resistance.... ok, technically this bag shouldn't be considered water proof. I got caught in a typical Oklahoma rain storm a week or so ago. You know the kind... sideways rain and your umbrella doesn't do anything for you. So I and my bag got a good soaking. BUT the contents of my bag were dry. I did have to empty it and let the bag dry out, but that's cool. It happens. The bottom doesn't feel like leather, more like a tough vinyl. Hit it with some Armor-All every once in a while, and it'll be fine.Straps are padded and pretty stiff at first, but the more you use it, the more they break in and become super comfortable. (be prepared to have some minor abrasion on your shoulders from this.)(but of course, this happens with new backpacks I buy). There's a loop on top that I use to hang my keys on, but there is a key chain in the bottom pocket.I tried to get some good pictures all around the bag, so check them out.later

Perfect back pack for walking miles from parking to job site
Rugged. I find that it carries my computer (15 inch Dell), paper files, field books, phones, warm extra clothes, tupperwared food, etc. for my workday. Vey comfortable to wear. I have to walk from a parking lot to my job trailer (1 mile) and this pack carries every thing I need for the day. Being in construction it is stylish too. Echoing other reviews it would be better if the outer zipped pockets had two zippers. The water proof bottom is a great feature and if you pack it right with a bulky item in the bottom it will stand upright when you set it down and not flop over. The side mesh pockets are big enough to hold a 30 oz Atlin mug and on the the other side a safety glass case and folding umbrella. I do believe it would make a good day pack for bushwhacking in the wild on your days off.
