Use it to control my outdoor lights
This works with the compatible wall switches. I had my outdoor lights running from 4 different switches throughout the house. Now with this switch controller at the front door, I can control them all from one spot instead of walking room to room (and outside in one case). Does need the compatible wall switches to work.

Easy to install and very flexible
Easy to install and has many options to what it can do. You can have it turn on one device or build a routine to turn on many devices per button. Very pleased with it other than the cost.

It Works! Smartthings - Sort of... 🙄
My reason for purchase: A 4 button hardwired switch to run automations in smartthings. This works as it should although it MUST be run through IFTTT, when though this does integrate through Smartthings and Leviton. However ST doesn't recognize what to do with it and the options for assigning buttons is limited to a Leviton group or IFTTT, that's it. So I created four virtual switches to run the corresponding automation. It works.... About 50-60% of the time. The other 40-50% if you press one button all of them activate. And double press or Hold do not work.So it's 4 button, period. I have an 8 button remote(c) that works flawless and can function as a 16 or 24 button, of which I use as a 16 but it is not in the wall or hard wired. Sacrifice? Compromise? You decide.... It's not 5 star, but a tiny bit better than 3 starsUPDATE: After using this for a little while I've come to find that in my setup / situation unusual things happen from having other Leviton products installed. I had two outlets and two switches from Leviton as part of my system. What I found is when certain factors were right it would affect this switch. Most recently I had set both of the switches, which control ceiling fans to turn off at 2:00am and back on at 2:45am, not anything unusual, what was happening was at 2:00am button 4 was repeatedly "pressing" itself..? Now none of the 4 buttons have any connection to the two switches other than they both are "included" in the Leviton app. I'm unsure if this is an app issue or a physical devices issue. I will only say that after removing the automation for the fans the issue has stopped. The entire system is driven by Smartthings. In my singular experience it raises the concern about using more Leviton devices, and I also will say that this particular item is worth it for me to keep as it solves my desire for a permanent smart switch. Unfortunately it also means I will be replacing the two switches and outlets.

Nice idea, but alexa Integration is minimal
I've been searching for years for a smart home wall controller that works with Alexa. While voice commands are great, remembering the right combination of keywords takes practice. If guests need an instruction manual to turn on a light, that's not a very smart home. In-wall controllers are rare, and come with big limitations. Many hand-held options exist, but wired-in wall controllers are almost non-existent.Like most manufactures, the Leviton DW4BC-1BW assumes it's the center of the universe, and integration to non-leviton devices is minimal. The native Alexa integration via the Leviton skill is only a one-way action—meaning it's designed to accept Alexa voice commands to trigger a virtual button-push on this device, but the reverse isn't possible natively—such as a button push that communicates back to Alexa, for example to trigger an Alexa routine. Leviton, please fix this!!!!The "Rube Goldberg" work-around is your only hope.To integrate this device (as a controller) with Alexa requires the Leviton Alexa skill, Leviton mobile app, an IFTTT account, and a 3rd party IFTTT custom applet. If you're a beginner, this isn't for you.Assuming you've got your Alexa app/devices pre-configured, you've installed the Leviton Alexa skill, have the leviton app on your mobile, and have already on-boarded this device using the Leviton app here's how it works...In the Leviton App you select this device and follow the easy button setup instructions. Buttons are programmed (in the Leviton app) by selecting the IFTTT option for each of the 4 buttons. You must then create an IFTTT account. The free account only supports 5 actions, so you'll be covered on this one device with a spare for something else. IFTTT requires linking both your Alexa account and your Leviton account to make the bridge between them. But you'll also need a 3rd party IFTTT applet called IFTTTrigger and you'll also need to install the IFTTTrigger Alexa Skill. As of this review, no other options were available through IFTTT other than IFTTTrigger. Fortunately, it works great, unfortunately it only supports 3 actions, so your 4th button isn't supported. IFTTTrigger claims to have a paid option for additional actions, but I was unable to find a way to actually buy a paid subscription, so.. nope.Assuming you have Alexa set up, Leviton set up, IFTTT set up, the two required skills installed, you can now proceed. IFTTT is pretty easy to use. Select Leviton as the IF THIS, then select IFTTTrigger as the THEN THAT, and choose one of the 3 supported buttons.Over on the Alexa side, the 3 IFTTTrigger buttons show up as virtual devices just like a wired wall switch. You can then program an Alexa routine to trigger from a button push. Round-trip from a physical button push to Alexa turning on the light(s) is between 3-10 seconds depending on the cloud/services, etc. Adding a second DW4BC-1BW to the system? Forget it! Why no company has solved this Rube Goldberg style of integration is puzzling, I can only assume patent trolls or others are blocking the obvious user experience needs.Good luck!

Not at all what I was expecting, very disappointed
First of all, I don't think there is one good thing I have to say about this product, honestly I am beyond disappointed.I bought this product with the intention of using it with Philips Hue bulbs as it drives me nuts that I have to have battery powered remotes all over the house if I plan to turn on and off lights, properly, without the use of voice. I thought this was exactly what I was looking for; it replaces a light switch with a bunch of buttons that control Wi-Fi devices! Ha no. All this can do is connect to other Leviton switches, which seems insane to me... why would I want to replace a switch that has a purpose with a device that requires the switch to be there to function? But wait, it supports IFTTT! This is where it got me, I admit, I didn't realize what this meant when I made the purchase, aside from the fact that it was supposedly what allowed compatibility with Philips Hue. Rather than creating a device that works with Google or Apple services, Leviton decided to instead support IFTTT, another app service which essentially acts as a glue to bind Leviton with random other things. Cool, that's fine, I have to download and sign up for another service which is a pain but if it works, I'm happy! Except it doesn't. IFTTT allows you to set up 3 connections before requiring you to pay a 7 dollar per month service fee. 3 devices? No, 3 connections! Each button counts as one connection, so you can't even fully set up all 4 buttons without paying. What's even better is that both Leviton and IFTTT send all your requests to the cloud to figure out what to do. As a result, I experienced around 4-5 seconds of delay from the time I pressed a button to turn on a light until it actually turned on.Other things of note;-build quality of the buttons is just ok, the 4th button on mine is spongey instead of clicky-install instructions are ok but once you get to the point where you need the app, it just says 'follow the instructions in the app', but the app instructions are garbage, the whole app is garbage-trying to connect the device to Wi-Fi was the most painful setup experience I've ever had, it failed multiple times in multiple different ways before it got stuck in a loop of my phone not being able to connect to the product anymore. I was finally able to connect to it and finish setup by digging out my old phone, downloading the app, and restarting the entire process-I wasted multiple hours trying to get this thing to work as I wanted when I was expecting it to take less than half an hour-I will never buy another product from Leviton

Custom engraving not available outside USA
UPDATE:After going back and forth with Leviton customer support, they sent me four custom engraved plates free of charge to Canada. It is my understanding that they have updated their marketing to note that custom engraving is only available in the USA (for now.) This is a real shame because with a few of these around the house, it's easy to forget what each button does and homemade labels would look cheesy. Anyway, I am happy.Regarding the unit itself. It uses side terminals, not pigtails, which means fewer marrettes to fit in the box if it is the only device. On the other hand, for double or triple boxes, you will end up lots of marrettes anyway, and in my case I had to replace all my double and triple boxes with deeper ones to make everything fit.It would be more versatile if it could control a dimmer load. My layout was just lucky that I had a few 3-way circuits where I didn't really need the other one and put the 4-button controller there instead. One other comment I will make about this and all the other Leviton smart products is that the buttons feel a bit mushy. This is probably due to the modular design of the faceplates but still, a more crisp feel would be an improvement.ORIGINAL REVIEW:Was debating between Leviton and Lutron for outfitting my whole house. Went with Leviton due to the custom engraving option on their 4 button controller (also I generally like the look of their decora switches better.) After multiple emails with technical support, they finally admit custom engraving is only available in the USA. There isn't even a way for an American friend or relative to order it for me (unless they own a Leviton 4 button controller themselves) -- as it has to be ordered from within the app. Now I have $2000+ invested into Leviton dimmers and controllers with no solution to finish the project with a professional look. I will have to resort to goofy stickers and try to source custom engraving locally. One other very annoying thing (which I hope they fix in a firmware update) is that the "toggle" action can only toggle 1 item. So you can have a button that turns 3 lights on, and another button that turns 3 lights off. But you can't have a button turn those same 3 lights on/off as a toggle. You can have a button that toggles 1 light on/off, however.
