There is an official certification process that is done by a testing board, and costs quite a bit of money to have the product officially "Rated" for potable water. They examine the product and will issue a certificate that it is "officially tested and rated" for potable water. Do we have have that certification? NO. 2. Will it work? YES. The washed gravel inside weight - are they sealed from water outside or have water entry?

As far as i can tell it's sealed. This weight is not very heavy though, For MY application i had to buy a heavier one.

What material is the housing made of? Is it food-safe (submerged in drinking well water)?

Hello, The cable weight is also made out of polypropylene. The insides of the cable weight have washed gravel inside of it. It is more of a personal preference on if you want to use it in a food/water application.
