Soldier of Fortune
This is a fairly generic action film, made slightly notable by being the last one of the few films made by Brandon Lee before The Crow and his untimely death on the set. Lee plays a mercenary, which also gave the name for a previous release of the film on VHS, Soldier of Fortune , who has been tasked with contacting and rescuing a scientist (Ernest Borgnine) who has invented some overpowered killing device (basically a massive laser, hence the DVD title). Conventional action movie hijinks ensue, with some high points - such as the comic routine at the start of the second mission, and some conventional stupidity, such as bad guys that run up over open ground to the guy firing an assault rifle so he can do some karate moves to break up the gun play. There are a number of attempts at humour injected into the mix, particularly in the first half of the film, but most of it falls flat for me - his partner in crime, the scientists daughter, gets some of the better material but it is patchy. The continued incompetence of his opponents also tends to make Lee seem lucky rather than a particularly competent mercenary, and this is even aside the comic relief duo that is trying to track him down. Everyone also oscillates between being exceptionally ruthless and giving the opponent a sporting chance, which is often an issue in these sorts of action films, but it was more jarring than usual.Overall it is okay as long as you don't very high expectations.

Laser Mission
I first came accross this film many years ago just before The Crow was released. I had a VHS copy that had the alternate title of Soldier Of Fortune. At that time of my life i actually loved the movie which really does play like a video game. It had gun fights, chases, and cheesy humour and everything that a thirteen year old would appreciate. In 2012 though, now i am much older, i do not have the same fondness for the film as i once did. It is heavily dated and the plot holes are much more obvious. However apart from a few flaws the film is still a lot of fun. Brandon Lee looks like he knows he is not in a great film but has a great time anyway. The main problem for me is the appaling DVD. The transfer is awful and much worse than my old VHS copy. On closer inspection, the cover art looks like it has been photocopied from a magazine or printed from the internet and worst of all the movie is actually missing some of the violence that was present in my video version. So, do not buy this Elstree Hill Entertainment edition, instead save your money and watch the film on You Tube.

waste of time.
i am sorry to say even a commited fan would find the whole experience totally disappointing even as cheap as it was i still feel that it was a waste of money.

Laser Mission
Terrible film quality, terrible sound quality, terrible acting. This film is meant to be a serious film but turned out like a comedy.
