AGAIN
Mort Todd has done the impossible. Again. Music videos, Art prints, The Charlton Arrow, Cracked, Classic Hot Rods and Racing Car Comics, Sadistik, TV commercials, comic strip, Mystery Island, The Diabolical Super Criminal documentary…Whew. Is there no end to this man’s creativity? Now comes a new book. This new title, Steve Ditko’s Weird Comics, is one of the very few comics in the market that is unique, distinctive, original, compelling provocative, interesting. As is the original thinker, one of the very few in the comics, who has written and illustrated the fresh stories collected here. Newly colored by another original thinker.

A colorful collection of mid-80s, early-90s Ditko art
Apart from one story inked by Mort Todd, the artwork was by Ditko in his mid-80s, early-90s style (pen with a lot of line), similar to his art in his sole Dark Horse release "The Safest Place". The coloring of the issue by Mort Todd is great -- very bold yet compliments the art, which most modern coloring does not. The stories were fun, short reads. The print quality was great. A thicker-than-normal glossy cover with standard, modern comic book type paper for the interiors.Certainly a nice, colorful addition to any Ditko collection.

Three Stars
Not Ditko's best, but worth having if you are a fan of his work.

Ditko - sheer genius!
I was glad to see that Steve Ditko continues with his fantastic and unique art. I read the Spiderman and Doctor Strange comics back in the 1960s and considered him second only to Jack (King) Kirby. In Solid, the first story in Weird Comics No. 1 is a classic, both in artwork and story. The full page panel on the last page of the story is worthy of framing! Steve Ditko is a rare genius in the world of comic books. Long may he continue... And long may his work be enjoyed and appreciated.

Steve Ditco has been the consummate king of weird illustration for over 50 years! This tome proves he still owns the crown!
Delightful collection of classic hallucinaginia as only illustrated story telling can convey. These little nightmares harken back to the pre-super hero days of Atlas and Charlton comics long before Spiderman exploded into world fame and comic book artists became rock stars. Not that that is wrong. These guys are rock stars and this book is a new symphony of sight as only the author of now classic Amazing Fantasy 1-15 could present it. All new! All twisted! original, and amazing! What a great treat! Hopefully the first of many more to come! A++++++++++++++++!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Later Ditko work
These later period stories by Steve Ditko show some impressive artistic ideas. Entities inhabiting physical things, People being changed or distorted in various ways, and some interesting premises as the cause of these things. Unfortunately, these are all rather short stories, with little depth in the plot. Ditko is not making political or philosphical statements in these stories. Rather they're more in the vein of horror stories with plot twists.I highly recommend this for Ditko's artwork and creative artistic ideas, but not so much for the stories. Certainly a must for an Ditko fan!

Stars are for Ditko's art
These are not horror stories but science fiction stories. The last one doesn't make sense.

Ditko s magic revisited in Charlton comic anthology
Ditko s unique art style captivated me over 50 years ago when I came across his Spiderman &DocStrange work,& even more in the 60s marvel reprints of his early sci fi stories(in Amazing Fantasy) later I came across his excellent Shade..Changing Man series, so I was interested to see his more recent work in this comic anthology. I d never read any of his Charlton comics work, but l was not disappointed in it all. The original Ditko magic was still there.the magical strangeness, the powerful caricatures of humans , As for non humans., 2 of the stories feature Ditko.s robots, which always impress me,as much as the very different robots in Russ Manning,s Magnus Robot Fighter. comics .Ditko.s equally impressive & often sympathetic aliens are absent in this collection ,but 1 story "Illusion" features a demon in 2 panels on page 24 ,another of Ditko.s specialitys( eg Dormmannu,Nightmare in Doc Strange The story "In solid" features a marvellously metamorphic EX- human, drawn in a cartoonish manner that,s humourus, bizarre and threatening at the same time, while " All in the Mind" depicts another ex-human in a way that could be gruesome but with Ditko.s handling isn.t .Scientists mad,bad and otherwise often feature in Ditko,s work..here are 4,2 good,2 very bad if not mad, and as usual in Ditkoland the bad onesget their just deserts. And so do a terrorist bomber and a thief/murderer ,Ditko had no sympathy for such, and neither do I.If there.s a theme to this collection, it.s that a)crime/cruelty/greed don't.t pay andb) power whether scientific or sorcerous is a dangerous thing without wisdom/restraint. The stories in this collection are short, simple, and without Ditko,s magic touch would be average/pedestrian. One aspect I really liked was the vivid ,bright colors, which highlight the artist.s visual mastery. I recommend this collection to a) fans of Ditko,b)comic fans unfamiliar with ,who should then go on to sample his Shade,Spiderman and Doctor Strange.
