Perfect Diagnostic for cars in VW-Audi family.
If you have a VW-Audi-Skoda vehicle, you know that there are many functions that need to be performed that need a good diagnostic tool. VCDS was too expensive and a bit too complicated. I heard about this unit and purchased it. While I donβt understand all of the functions, it does help with rear brakes as well as more in depth diagnostics than your standard OBD II unit. Itβs easy to use, has a nice color screen and does many functions that some of the more expensive (and complicated) do.

Surprisingly useful
Ended up buying this to recode the battery monitor systems on a 2015 Audi Q7 TDI after doing a DIY replacement. Luckily the new battery I bought from AutoZone already had a code on it so I just needed to go into the VW settings of the reader and it recoded successfully. Since then it has been useful for other miscellanious tasks on the car. Got a coil light that popped up and a check engine code. Took it to a car shop to diagnose and they took $180 and said car was toast. Used this to narrow down the problem to a failed seal on the #1 injector. $25 replacement later and car seems back in order. Has a lot of surprisingly useful functions (can look at status of each car sub module... there are a lot... can do battery voltage monitoring, monitor data streams etc). Only reason I don't give it 5 stars is the thing can be a bit of a pain to use. The documentation is a bit sparse and I was unable to find an explanation for a lot of the different features. I have had a few "what did I do" moments when I hit a function to say check the ABS system and it lights up the dashboard with errors. Luckily moving the car and restarting have resolved those. For the money given the dealer wanted about the same price just to recode the battery I cannot complain. If they had better documentation or a way to store error codes for later viewing (which maybe it does?) it would be even better.Pros:+ Extensive diagnostic capabilities (can interface with pretty much every subsystem in the car)+ Successfully recoded my battery and verified low voltage drop during starting of old one before swap+ Great help to DIY on an Audi diesel (can run fuel pump, recode battery, parses errors from both CAN and Audi specific codes)Cons- Limited documentation on specialty features- Locks up sometimes when querying modules (specifically the steering system)- Temporarily trips status lights for the ABS system (although these self clear in 30s or so)

Seems to work for my needs.
Package delivered a day EARLY! Packaged very securely. Had some difficulty finding the software update web page. Sent a e-mail to the address listed on the company website. Within 8 hours I received a detailed email with all the info I needed. The next day I received a follow up e-mail to insure all went well. I AM IMPRESSED! Oh, and the scanner seems to work as promised. I am not a mechanic so I am only using basic functions. This tool has the ability to far exceed my abilities. But, for finding, and describing fault codes for my Audi and clearing off old codes, it is great. My other basic need was to register my new AGM battery and reset the system.

Can check a ton of VW specifics BUT....
I bought this to do a DSG service... I needed to read my trans fluid temp to properly service it.The trans has three temp sensors.Fluid sump, clutch air/fluid (reads air but fluid slings off clutch so really close temps if proper function)And mechatronic shift unit has its own temp sensor..All three should be relatively close as they share the same fluid.Any major spikes up or down would signify a blockage or some other issue. My trans sump temp (the one I actually needed) read like -14* c on average.. it should have been ~15-20c where I live.Bad trans sensor or cheap VAG system... who knows I havnt verified it with real vag.It also kept throwing codes that a Vag wouldnt.Nothing worth noting but it was a hassle to get them cleared and keep them gone.I would probably either use an IR temp sensor to do trans service cheaply. Or Real VAGS to do it correct.

Must have for VAG owners
The combo was cheaper than the scanner alone. Scanner has DPF regen and fuel system prime features.Case is extremely well made and surprisingly tough
