NOT for wood-backed chalkboards!!!
These pens are super awesome. Easy to write with, great pigmentation, no run-off drippys. I even like the label on the marker itself. Black with white and blue writing. This is a minor detail, but I wanted to keep these in a high traffic area of the house and didn't want some neon monstrosity I had to look at day in and day out.HOWEVER, these do not clean off of porous chalkboard. 90% of the chalkboard stuff in your home is most likely porous. Anything with a wood backing doesn't work. It goes on beautifully, but stays on as well. This could be a bonus if you want to write something permanently and have it look like chalk...Write it, let it dry then wipe off with water. It'll look like really old chalk writing. For example, my brand new french country chalkboard shows pork-fried rice for dinner on Tuesdays indefinitely. I even took a scrub brush to it. No bueno. The packaging warns you of this, but I thought chalkboard would be non-porous. My bad. These will be great for writing messages on mirrors and such though!

Works great on black dry erase boards
Recently I bought a used four drawer filing cabinet. Unfortunately, it got a little scraped up on the ride home. Seeing as it's black, I tried the old cover it up with black magic marker trick. Except since it's in my kitchen and the scraped up side faces my living room the light caught it just right that I could see the marker. So I set out to figure out how to cover it. I ruled out a dry erase board because I knew the white board on the black cabinet would drive me nuts because it would always be catching my peripheral vision. So I though about a chalkboard. Except I have really bad asthma and chalks dust would be sure to set me off. I thought I was just going to have to deal with it the way it was. And then I found thisĀ Expo Aluminum Framed 18 in x 24 in Black Dry Erase Board . It was even framed in black, and amazingly the perfect dimensions. The only thing I didn't take into consideration was that traditional dry erase markers wouldn't show up on it. You have to use neon. Well, I had no problem with that, but I kept looking at that beautiful black board and imagining white lettering. I couldn't find white dry erase markers, but I came across these. They were more expensive than I wanted to pay, but since they had the money back guarantee I figured I'd give them a shot.I was absolutely right. The white writing on the black dry erase board looks awesome! I have to be careful when using them because I'm left handed, but that's something I'm used to. The only difference with these is, instead of my hand erasing what I'm writing, these will smear horribly because they need a minute to dry. I use a Mr. Clean Magic Eraser instead of a traditional eraser and it works great. The only thing I noticed is if I use the Mr. Clean Eraser dry it leaves a kind of "ghosting" on the board, not unlike if you leave a dark color on a white board for a long time. But add a little water to the eraser and it comes off like a dream without the ghosting. What I would LOVE to see in these is some NEON colors that I could use. Especially a pretty neon purple. Oh, and something like a bright neon cobalt/electric blue. I would DEFINITELY buy those! Overall, I'm pretty happy with my purchase. I wish they were a little more affordable, but in all honesty, I'd still buy them again at the price I paid for them. Especially if I see those purple and blue neon colors!

Occasional usage only
Order this along with Expo neon marker for writing on a sizable glass board. Each markers has its own pros and cons. Expo markers are rather difficult to wipe out with only a little bit of dust; whereas this particular one is easier but creates lots of dust with dry paper towel (much easier than dry eraser). The chisel head is not as good/strong as bullet points from Expo. Wet erase is not an option due to the drying time required. Overall, neither one is practical in a rather demanding environment.

Strong positive recommendation--read the whole review
There are a couple of things I didn't know when I first bought these that might make it look like I should only have given them four stars but there's a reason for them and I stick with my five star rating. Here's what you should know if you've never used liquid chalk before:1. When you first get them or if you haven't used one for quite a while, it's important to shake them even more than you think you need to. It takes more shaking than I was accustomed to for spray paint. As a result, the first time I used one there was too much of the drying agent and not enough chalk stuff.2. When you store them, be sure to store them with the nib side up. I stored my nib side down, thinking it would be easier to mix up the next time I used it. The liquid seeped into the cap and when I opened it, the liquid ran all down my hand and onto the floor. It's amazingly easy to clean up so that wasn't a problem but it wasn't what I had hoped would happen. Now I know not to do that.3. Finally, it took me quite a while to get the hang of how much to push on the nib to get the right flow of chalk but I've gotten that down pat now.So, those are the down sides. As you see, they were all things that were easy to learn and overcome and perhaps if I had used any kind of liquid chalk before I would have known this already. Everything else is totally positive. Now that I have the hang of using it, I'm thrilled. I bought a roll of chalk board Contact "paper" and I put it on boxes, jars, anything I want to label, and use the Chalkers to tell me what's in there. With the liquid chalk I can wipe it off and re-label it when the need arises. I also like the look of it better than just writing on the box or using a white label.I haven't used them to write on glass or mirrors yet but one of these days I will. I think I'd do that more often if I had someone else living with me.I recommend this product highly.
