Great fun little unit
This is a really fun drum synth. Can easily get lots of great sounds out of it and it's fun to use. Works great with the Yamaha KP65 kick tower. I wish it had MIDI but hey, can't have everything. The main problem I'm having with the unit is that my 4 year old wants to play with it all the time lol.

A Reissue Dream Come True
Electro-Harmonix has finally reissued a couple of its electronic percussion boxes, the Super Space Drum and the Crash Pad. The Super Space Drum was originally released in 1979 as an improved Space Drum. The reissued Super Space Drum is an improvement over its ancestor in size - it is smaller than the original - and features - "Time" and "Volume" knobs are added. But, the original's pad trigger that could be struck with a drum stick is replaced with a button. However, external triggering is accommodated with the Super Space Drum's ¼" "EXT. IN" and a device with ¼" TS (Tip-Sleeve) plug (recommended) or a ¼" TRS (Tip-Ring-Sleeve) plug. The Super Space Drum is capable of bass/kick drum to tom emulation thanks to a 20 Hz to 4 kHz frequency response. The analog electronic sound capable of so much more than traditional “beatbox” sounds and great for strangely "retro" sounds.A ¼ auxiliary input (AUX IN) allows gating of external audio sources through the Super Space Drum when triggered. The afore mentioned “EXT. IN” will most likely be the preferred trigger method for performers. By specification, the Super Space Drum is very accommodating in this regard. Performances with the Electro-Harmonix Clockworks and 8-Step Program, as seen on YouTube, work very well. I generally use an Arturia BeatStep Pro to sequence the Super Space Drum along with an Electro-Harmonix Crash Pad and a Nord Drum. The Super Space Drum also triggers very well from legacy gear like drum machines the Korg KPR-77, the Roland TR-606, and TR-707 which have trigger outputs. Using the “EXT. IN” with a sequencer frees hands to manipulate the sound of the Super Space Drum in real time.Drummers looking to augment their kit with something very different and electronic sounding or to add to their kick sound should consider the Super Space Drum. However, the Super Space Drum does not respond to velocity except by adjusting its sensitivity setting.Like other Electro-Harmonix products, the Super Space Drum is sturdy and well built.I have used the Electro-Harmonix Super Space Drum with equipment mentioned above. As an owner of several Electro-Harmonix effect boxes, I have often requested the return of their electronic percussion from the late 1970s and early 1980s. The Super Space Drum is a great start. The Crash Pad is a great companion. I wonder/hope Electro-Harmonix will reissue more of its electronic percussion line (Sonic Boomer, Rolling Thunder, Clap Track, Panic Button).
