Great Pause to Emery and Penny Story
Here we get a sort of conclusion to Emery and Penny's story while still advancing the over all Regan and Darius story. Excited to see all the old and new characters. Looking forward to how it all fits together.

Fun read!
Penny has come out of her shell and is standing up to her mom and Regan, mostly. Regan and penny’s relationship is pure hilarity. Cahal is a welcome addition. Highly recommended.

Working together
Enjoyed the story as a whole with magical creatures working together but found the flow less smooth and grabbing of attention than in prior books. (Easier to put this one down.). Druid was a good add. Love the series and will get next set as available to see how reads.

I am obsessed with these sagas!
Penny, Emery, and Reagan are the pyramid core but the shifters and vampires (not to mention the seer and dual mage couple, etc. who all added their own spice) were such interesting characters. There is so much to unpack in Breene's books that most will likely be re-read in the future.

Gifts can have unintended consequences
Penny and Emery work with powerful vampires and shifters to take down a corrupt mage guild. At the beginning of the book she acquires a very powerful goblin's special magical talent. She also works with Reagan to learn how to control her magical powers. Excellent magical angst and action scenes help the reader understand the magical community's strengths and weaknesses.

Fighting for life and freedom
OMG! This was an exhilarating book that took practicality blew my mind as many people who were maimed and bloodied in this book! The descriptions were so well written and not over the top just right that you got the gist of it but not all the gore. It was so exhilarating and kept me engaged with it all the way through and brought me joy and peace with the heroine and hero made steps towards their goals in the fighting it made my heart race and I read faster than normal because of the excitement it was so powerful and fun reading. The characters felt real and hilarious in many parts of this book and I laughed so much, this writer is so Great, she really has a great sense of humor and writes wonderful stories, her characters are amazing. This is the 4th Series that I have read from this writer and haven’t read all of this series yet so am off to read the next book in this series and looking forward to it.Please read this series of books it’s worth reading and full of amazing characters.

I can't get enough!
Penny & Emery are set to take on the Mages' Guild with their trusted circle of friends, but it won't be enough. To take on the Guild, they are going to have to rely on those they only sort-of trust. The laughter is still sprinkled into the pages, but the rollercoaster of emotions in this one is much more dynamic. All our favorite characters are back, we meet a new one or two, and enemies are amassing around every corner.I started reading this world back when this was as far as Keene had gotten. I read far too much to be able to wait for the next book, so I set the series in my wait list and have now reread the first 6 books. I must say that I am STILL so excited to keep reading, I cannot wait to see what Breene has in store in the next installments!

Good luck Penny
Spot on writing as always. Easily sucked into penny's world and emotions without trying. Breene is the master at weaving a story. I read Reagan's first book but couldn't continue the rest of her storyline. I loved Reagan's flare but not her supposed lineage. That said I finally decided go pick up penny's story. I love her meek and humble heart. Balanced with the confidence and might of Emery. They just work and wow can Emery steal a girls' heart with his poetic words. The relationship development between penny and all the surrounding characters was so seamless. Penny and Emery moving forward, Reagan gaining a friend, Darius giving respect and trust, Cahal finding an honest heart to respect and finally penny cutting off her mothers' control. The whole wild cast of characters worked. I would love to see Roger find his mate. He's delish and I'd like to see him happy too.I might be the odd one out here but I'm not a fan of Callie and Dizzy. I get they are comic relief but they were just distraction in penny's story. After a while I would just skim over their parts. You know you can laugh so much it hurts? It hurt to read them but not from laughing. Now Mr. Happy Go Lucky rock was hilarious! What a mischaracterized clump of sedimentary.
