Great for ESXi
I also built an ESXi-5 based server. A successful ESXi server just about requires Intel NICs (Network Interface Card), otherwise you're likely to be jumping through all sorts of esoteric ESXi installation hoops, which is not my cup of tea. My motherboard (an Intel BOXDG43GT LGA) has an embedded Intel NIC and I needed a couple more network ports. This dual-port NIC is cost-effective, and ESXi recognized it immediately and transparently. I didn't have to do anything except plug the card in and turn the machine back on, yielding a total of three NIC ports instead of just the one.In my opinion, Intel NICs are the best NICs on the market, being robust, fast, reliable, and they can handle heavy loads and large file-transfers (> 4GB) without getting stuck/hung; something that many other brands have trouble with. If you don't have an Intel NIC, try it yourself - move a 10GB file across your LAN and see if it doesn't hang or greatly slow-down. If you have another brand of NIC, you may be disappointed by the results. For this reason alone, I highly recommend Intel NICs, whether it's this particular card, or some other NIC by Intel. In fact, when I buy motherboards, I always try to find one where the embedded NIC is by Intel, regardless of ESXi or not.

Awesome network card for pfSense
This card is awesome. I installed it into my pfSense router and it was recognized right away without installing any special drivers. The performance is rock solid and I couldn't ask for a better card. The seller I purchased from was AMTECH. They were great and very fast shipping this card to my door. This card ships with the standard height bracket and I needed the low profile version for my rack mount case. I contacted AMTECH and asked about the low profile bracket and they replied back later in the day and told me they'd send me the low profile bracket at not extra cost. That was really cool of them and saved me the trouble of having to research and find just the low profile bracket elsewhere. At 42 dollars this card is a steal. I see it retailing on other sites for a lot more. I'll be buying more of these cards to install in my other machines and run nic teaming later.Great card! Great Price! and Great service from AMTECH.

Just what the doctor ordered
I have a specific need - my system has a single gigabit port and an SSD drive. I do audio recording, and, as the nature of audio recording (lots of writes) and SSD's main weakness being that it can't handle TONS of writes before they eventually burn out, and, sometimes they have catastrophic losses....well, I have a Synology DiskStation, and, it does iSCSI.Well, if you try and pull off standard networking and iSCSI the result is that something has to give. I was having issues with either the files sharing from the diskstation dropping, or the iSCSI drive dropping. I was able to work around it by using the Realtek diagnostic software, which allows one to create virtual network cards, and assigning vlans to the virtual cards/switch, but that's just...fake.This does is just what the doctor ordered. Two gigabit ports. One for standard network, one for iSCSI, and it seems to perform even better than the Realtek NIC. So, at least with this system, I've disabled the realtek NIC.I have an identical system that I use as a home-server, and, when I need to, I shift both of those systems into a 2node cluster. Previously, I did it with the realtek diagnostic driver creating a heartbeat, live migration, iscsi, and data networks all to create a hyper-v cluster - it'll be interesting when I need to do this again to see how it goes as I could omit the live-migration network...Anyway...works great.

I messed up and it is a PCI-E x4 or higher. Did not fit the x1 slot I wanted it for
Great card once I found a place to put it. I ended up burning my x16 port in my file server, but it is very unlikely I will ever put a real video card in it. Unfortunately I needed an x1 card, should have looked closer at my MB manual on the machine I wanted it for.As far as install, popped right up, installed drivers from the internet and I was good to go. It was not until after I installed it I realized it came with no drivers disk. Lucky it was going in a machine that had 2 ports already in use so it worked great. So, minus 1 star for no drivers from Vendor. I suspect I could have downloaded them onto a flash drive or something.Side note, I put it in a windows XP machine (yea I know, cheap server, but it does the job) and it has been working well.

Excellent - need latest intel drivers for full stabiity
Excellent LAN card. I never thought I would take advantage of a dual LAN cable set up until I wanted to transfer full Blu-ray disc data to the server on the network. wow!! I found out that the LAN card was not the limiting factor... my CAT5e cable lines / network switch were the bottle neck. highly recommend this card but you should first install latest Intel Pro-Set drivers to ensure stability. then tweak the advanced settings if you know what you are doing in those settings. The default driver settings work fine, but can squeeze a bit more out of the connection if you dig into the settings a bit.Awesome LAN card. Highly recommend this and other Intel based LAN cards. never had a problem with them... they blow the Realtek chip based LAN cards out of the water. you get what you pay for.

Nice huge heatsink, blazing performance when load balanced.
Full disclosure, the first card I was sent was DOA. I contacted Amazon who forwarded me to the vendor, and they were very happy to assist and sent me out a new card, did not even ask for a return of the dead one. This is how you win customers and get good reviews if there are issues. So the card itself is nice and sturdy looking, not some wafer think junk. Nice large heatsink on the processor which makes me think that it will have a nice long life. Install as always is simple, standard card here nothing special to talk about.Ok so performance. I have this in a Ubuntu 17.04 server which is a plex media transcoder slave, so I set these up bonded using BalanceXOR as my ghetto switch does not support 802.3ad so balancexor it is. Setup went great and I show them load balanced both running full 1gig links. Response times as well as over throughput over my single 1gig link has easily doubled (or more) throughput and lowered response times a solid 1ms. I honestly did not think for something like video xcoding that I would see this dramatic a performance increase, but yeah there it is.As a side note, Ubuntu 17.04 did recognize these right away and no additional drivers were needed to be loaded or anything special. Just add and put them in interfaces.

Good but dated
Adapter works fine but Intel drivers have more functionality (i.e. bonding) for newer cards.I ended up buying a newer model, also from Intel, which makes good quality network cards.

Great NIC for my firewall
Some other comments on this product mentioned that they did not receive the Intel version of this NIC. I did receive the Intel make of this card and it was packed very well: In a OEM hard drive like manner, static bag and encapsulated in bubblewrap. As for the functionality and performance, it does exactly what it was purchased for. I installed this card into a computer running pfsense and snort. One port feeds a switch for the wired LAN and the other port feeds a wireless base station for the repeaters. It was plug and play, zero issues.

Dead on arrival, no after fitting to a third computer it worked on a Dell T3400 other two had tricky PCIe settings.
Item received was dead on arrival so it seemed, looked used, network ports were scratched might be a rework model applied for refund/return.Okay cancelled return, the Adapter worked in the third computer I tried. As I confirmed this worked, I dug a bit deeper, be careful of BIOS PCIe allotment's, I had 1PCIe x16, 3 PCIe x1 and a PCIE X4, this was the slot I fitted it to as requires a x4. This x4 is only a x4 when PCIe 2 or 3 are not used, I had a USB 3.0 card in 3, so this disrupted the x4 to x1, so the Pro/1000T Dual server would not function. So after about 1 hour of rebuilding my PC that I wanted this card in, it worked. Windows update installed driver, I ran the latest Intel drivers,LACP team set up with my switch, now have a 2Gbe LAN connection. Just proves my Dell T3400 is the dog, no tricky setting that require 30 minutes of Motherboard Manual reading and only spotted it on the third pass can prove problematic so apologies to all concerned I am now a very happy punter.

Skeda EXPI9402PT

Works well on NAS4Free using ASUS C60 M1 Motherboard
I bought this NIC to add to my NAS4Free server running on an ASUS C60 M1 Motherboard. The card was installed in the single 16x slot on the motherboard normally used for graphics cards. Initially the card was not recognized. After going into the BIOS ver 305 and changing the Advanced NB Configuration settings to Dual Monitor and Integrated Graphics as Auto the card was recognized. I then setup the Intel NIC dual ports as aggregated interface and made it the primary interface per this procedure [...]I then activated the RealTek interface in NAS4Free GUI web interface and assigned it a different IP address. Now the server runs on the more stable Intel dual port Interface with both ports aggregated as one IP address. The realtek motherboard interface can also be used for admin or other purposes. Very pleased with purchase so far.
