Better to attach directly without the extension for more robust reading

Having started to use the product, it became immediately apparent that the tolerance is way out. Advised by manufacturer to send it back, however, it has to be shipped to Las Vegas, and they'll only pay up to £20 postage. Just avoid the pain...
