Hello,yes,the volume works as it should be,it can help you to control the volume as you want,but, the knob cannot help you to increase the volume according to your audio source.

Thank you for the question.This 3.5mm switcher does not support the microphone. It helps you to distribute a 3.5mm audio signal source to two 3.5mm audio signal amplifying devices.

Q: Current "like" product has terrible cross noise between the two out cables. How's the noise shielding from this product?

No issues so far. Works as described and made well with metal not cheap plastic. So far it solves the problem for us between easily switching between speakers and headphones. Like the volume controls.
