It travels fine in checked baggage and is very accurate. I do take the battery out and put it in my pocket.

yes, there is a switch on the back to move it to us. lbs. This item was great. Used it on our trip to France in September. Was within one pound of regular scale. Only thing is that because it is small, the main part of your foot stays on it while your toes and heel may be off. Must be on hard floor to be balanced correctly. Totally worked for me and my husband so we were able to stay on track through our travels.
