Criss Angel MINDFREAK Ultimate Magic Kit for Kids, Teens & Adults

Magicians have always fascinated me. I've always admired watching someone's ability to bend physics. Unlike other magicians Criss Angel has received a lot of ridicule from other major magicians and the public for using TV magic, paid actors and stooges. The remarks people make on him are monotonous, cliched and have become as bland as soggy card board. How ever these opinions and judgements on him can not be true because he makes millions of dollars a year. So this kit is only a small portion of his intelligence, which judging by who he is, is valuable. I have not gone through all five hundred and fifty tricks so I can not comment on them. I have had a look at some of the props which are ingenious. The book is the focus point I think, having a lot of information that is rather valuable. Im not a large fan of props, devices and colourfull things but sometimes the mechanics are useful. Some of those things are in this kit but in my opinion those things are nothing more than an idea given to us by Criss that can be used to do better things. From a naïve perspective, this is a good kit. UPDATE Ive had a look through the props, instruction dvd and booklet. The props are cool but in real life your not going to carry a bag of props with you in order to do all the effects but like I said before you can use the mechanics with other natural items. The most valuable information I think is found in the back of the pamphlet. The DVDS are excellent, one DVD simply shows performances with the props and the other two have Criss teaching you. I cant really think of anyone better than Criss that could teach the magic, that alone is invaluable. I think I know why Criss wears so much metal bling now too, its most likely used as a distraction. A couple of the props in this kit explain some of the illusions he does in his tv series, such as the illusion where he passed through glass, that illusion is revealed in a minor degree from this kit. There is one prop in this kit which is very clever and I always thought it was useless but you can do some pretty simple and very cool stuff with it. ANOTHER UPDATE: I never really considererd Criss Angel to be the type of guy that uses traditional magic but after some substantial research I have come to the conclusion that Criss does often use novel magic and merely makes it look epic. The best methods/ tricks are in the back of this kits booklet, The last card trick in the book is incredibly simple and incrdiby effective but requires no skill to perform. I love hard tricks that require logical thought and use strenuous mental methods to work, so much so, I cant even do half the tricks I know. David Berglass is probably the old school british magician/ mentalist that inspired me to try and do magic in that manner but to get such a simple card trick from Criss, its kind of relaxing. That being said there is one item in the kit that is exactly what David used. Crisses version or prop all tho it is what is it is, is good and is perfect for creating an extremely effective illusion. I personally painted the prop removing the mindfereak trade mark.

I bought this for my son's 11th B-day. It was about $60 plus (25 or so for shipping to Japan). He loves it, and is already able to do some of the tricks and "master them" to a reasonable degree. Quality is good enough for a "magician" type personality- and in someone who is dextrous and patient- and 11 years old, I would have probably broken some parts by my clumsiness. But if your kid is dexterous and patient ( does don push and pull stuff without out thinking) then the quality is "good enough" I certainly got my my moneys worth!! I read other reviews and before buying and some expressed disappointment in that they were "old tricks" and perhaps a more experienced magician would feel so. But for the beginner (or at least for my son) is is a 5 golden stars!!
