Q: What's the difference between the regular and "upgraded" versions?

Please take a look at my review (Nunya', 3 stars) dated August 13, 2022, for a detailed comparison between the regular and "upgraded" versions. While some of the material may be slightly improved as the manufacturer suggests, my conclusion is that if the regular's slightly smaller size will meet your needs and you don't need the map pocket or flag patch, its quality is actually better than that of the "upgrade" due to single stitching at the zipper, missing drain hole, and stitching on the molle straps in the upgrade.

Q: Dose this come with shoulder straps?

No, straps are sewn onto the pouch but they are meant to attach to molle gear. No shoulder straps.

Q: How waterproof is it? I search for reptiles and amphibians so I’m always going to ponds, lakes, and creek.

it will leak through the zipper, its as water proof as a standard backpack
