Excellent book and resource- an architect’s library must have
This book is EXCELLENT!! As architects we are balancing 1000 things at once— having an amazing design, meeting deadlines, drawing details that make sense, keeping up with new materials and on and on. Then there is code... the beast we MUST know or it will slow our permits or halt our construction or worse... create unsafe spaces! I want to know code intuitively as I design but I also want to know code academically so that I can find what I am looking for. That said, I’ve tried several different resources and none are anywhere as close to as valuable (yes, even beloved Ching). I love that this is broken down as a process (as a business owner I love a good process) and also discusses code is plain English!! You will NOT regret this book and I see myself referencing it on every project from here on out.

Fantastic learning tool
Best example of how to review a building step by step that I have encountered. I use it to explain items to young staff as the graphics are really wonderful.

A.R.E. Candidates Take Note!
I wish I had this while I was studying for the A.R.E. It provides the intuitive understanding needed to apply Code systematically. Too late now; I finally passed, but it might have saved me 2 retakes if I'd bought it last year. This review is based on a recent presentation by the author and a downloaded sample. I'm holding out for the 2018 version that AZ municipalities adopted before I invest.

Must have for using IBC
I am preparing for NCARB ARE 5.0, and saw a review here saying if he/she bought it earlier, he/she would had avoided retaking 2 exams. That is why I buy this book, a bit Superstitious, Lol. After browsing the content list and read part of the book, I would like to say that this is a great buy. This book tell people how to apply IBC during SD. DD and CD step by step to new constructions and existing buildings.I have worked for 4 years, I only learned it by looking at how other architects use IBC periodically and by using Wiley illustrated IBC. While the first way was very fragmented, and the second way is more like explaining IBC in an illustrated way. This book is unique, it is truly about using IBC which saves my life!
