Q: can I heat milk in this? on the stove

It is stainless steel, as long as you remove the lid it is fine, I heat mine on the stove everyday with no problem! The lid has plastic in it so it is important to heat it up without the lid. Be sure to use a potholder because the handle gets hot. I put it on a heat disperser pan to heat it up slower and prevent that skin that can develop on the milk, and it keeps the pot looking new, but if you heat it up on low heat, without the lid, and watch it, it should be fine.

Q: Has anyone tried this with soy milk (e.g., Silk?) If so, how is the foam?

Yes, I use it with soy milk and it works. I warm the soy milk before frothing. After I pour the frothed soy milk on my coffee, it thickens even more. Don't worry when it doesn't look completely frothed before pouring it on your coffee, just pour it and it thickens even more. It works.

Q: No instructions whatsoever! Did I get all the parts? How does it work?

I'm no expert but this works for me: Fill the pot no more than half full with heated (not boiling) milk (or heat the milk right in the stainless pot on the stove). Secure the lid and pump the movable plunger up and down through the milk as fast as you can. Temperature of the milk, atmospheric pressure and pumping will affect the thickness of the foam. The result will be creamy and not stiff like meringue. Keep experimenting if you don't succeed at first!

Q: No instructions came with it how much milk do I use ???

Yes this is for milk, not cream. If you use cream you may end up churning butter with it.
