Amiga Classix 4

I know I played the Commodore 64 computer alot with video games and the graphics aren't near as good as the Commodore Amiga computer. This Cd that I have purchased for only $10, Wow what a deal getting around 200 games for that. I am having alot of fun playing games like Arkanoid and awesome differant pinball games! You will not be disappointed with this, but I could only run this on my windows xp computers! Also get the Amiga classix 5 cd, just as good!

The software runs fine on PC (if you run 64 bit Windows Vista or 7 you probably should replace the included winuae.exe with a more recent 64 bit version, available for free from the WinUAE website, though, as the included version is from 2004), I have not tested on Mac, and I could not see any Mac related software on the disc either - it's possible there's another Mac only partition on the disc not visible in Windows, as the files that are visible use less than half of the capacity of a CD-ROM. There's a front end program that categorizes and lists the games by genre, with some release information on most games, at times also with manuals and links to the developer's websites. The front end will launch the games configured to run the best way possible (hopefully) through emulation. There really isn't anything to complain about on this part, the real issue is that the cover art implies that games like Turrican 2, Alien Breed 2, Cadaver, Superfrog and many others are included are full versions, when they are actually only demo versions, which were obviously already legally available for free. There are still some real classic Amiga titles available as full versions on the disc, like Another World and Beneath A Steel Sky. Many, if not most of the games are the same pirated diskette copies available online though - complete with cracktros and trainers inserted by the pirate release groups back in the 80's and 90's, so it's not like you get the retail versions of the games, and some of the cracktros aren't self-evident how to get past - for example, to play Sirius 7, you first get the cracktro, where you can select to start the game, but even then the cracktro doesn't end until you hold both mouse buttons, which isn't mentioned anywere but in the support section of the html manual on the CD-ROM.For those who mainly wants legal access to the Amiga kickstart ROMs which are required to run most Amiga emulators (including WinUAE), Amiga Classix 4 (as well as Amiga Classix 5) only includes the Amiga 500 1.2 and 1.3 kickstart files - which is enough to run most games (at least all on the CD), but not games for Amiga 1200 or other Amiga systems, which you'll have to look elsewhere for.In summary, this isn't a great collection, but apart from the dodgy advertising it does include some decent or even classic titles (it's not a full on ripoff like the Amiga Revive collection was). It might be worth getting if you find it really, really cheap, but Amiga Classix 5 has a better selection of full versions, and even then, I'd probably recommend you getting the Amiga Forever package instead, which is rather expensive, but does include kickstart ROMs for all the Amiga machines, as well as a lot of fascinating bonus content, and most of the games from all the Amiga Classix releases, plus some for the higher end Amiga's.
