No peer-reviewed research is available on the purported mechanism of action of apoaequorin on memory in animals or humans. In an animal study funded by Quincy Bioscience, apoaequorin infused directly into the brains of rats protected neurons against ischemic cell death when administered before induced cerebral ischemic events, but the study did not address memory.

Despite claims of clinical testing in advertising and on the manufacturer's website, peer-reviewed clinical research on apoaequorin is nonexistent.

As a dietary supplement, so-called structure and function claims can be included for Prevagen, with no requirement for evidence of efficacy. If a medical claim, such as "treats mild cognitive impairment" or "treats Alzheimer disease," were made, clinical trials supporting these claims would be required.

'What are the ingredients? Active and Fillers

The "active" ingredient, iaw the Prevagen website, is 10 mg apoaequorin, a jellyfish protein.  However, ALL proteins that we ingest will normally get broken down into amino acids before they are absorbed into our bloodstream.  I do not know of ANY way for aequorin (or apoaequorin) to actually make it into our bloodstream and even if it did, I do not know of ANY way for aequorin to help our neuronal networks.  I cannot find ANY evidence that aequorin enters our blood or our nerve cells at any significant concentration.  I would welcome data from Quincy Biosciences on this specific point

Where is the expiration  date on the bottle?

Mine did not have a sell by date stamped on the box. After thinking the product was stale - texture was off and tasted "tangy" I found the manufacture number on the bottom of the bottle....2020! I am requesting a refund.

I don't see an expiration date. There is a number printed on the bottom-1711004M. The bottle contains a 60 day supply. If taken once daily, It shouldn't expire before it has all been consumed within in 60 days. I have found it to be very helpful with my short term memory. I suffered a brain injury 5 years ago.
