Good read for parents whose kids struggle in school.
Dr. Gibson introduces a new idea to the general population: your child may be smart and still not perform well in school. This is something many parents would like to believe - now they have some support. But Gibson goes beyond making parents feel better. He claims that the skills needed to do better in school can be improved. The book is written, at least in part, to promote LearningRx, a franchised cognitive improvement center, but it has additional value in that it can open the public eye to the changing face of brain research. Gibson's book presents some of this information in an easy to read and understand format. It may be one of the first steps in revolutionizing our educational system. The book is light reading - something that will appeal to busy parents. It takes a complex subject and makes it understandable. I would recommend it to any parent whose child has come to hate school and homework.

Given the reviews the book seemed like it was excellent but after I purchased and read half of it I figured out that it was really an advertisement for an expensive parenting program. It was definately not worth the money I paid for it.

Parents need to read before making decisions for their struggling learners
Loved the new research and MRI scans in their studies

Good information but...
This was an informative book but there was a little too much "selling" of the LearningRx" tutoring service. It has good information but not much practical.

Very informative!
This book (although a quick read), provides great insight to the fact that you CAN teach an old dog new tricks. I've heard my whole life that your IQ & learning ability is just a part of you that can't be changed. Dr. Gibson does provide alot of data on how you can improve IQ and other cognitive skills through training. They do mention LearningRx, but if that's the venue they use for providing such amazing results, that's fine with me. It's worth a read if you or someone you know has learning struggles.

The "Missing Link" in education
Dr. Gibson's eye-opening book is a must read for those parents and professional educators who are striving to unlock a child's potential. Through Dr. Gibson's ground-breaking cognitive approach, it is possible to truly attack and overcome a child's learning weaknesses, rather than teaching the child that he/she will have to compensate for these weaknesses for the rest of his or her life.As an educator/therapist for the past 18 years (plus the mother of a son with ADHD), I have personally witnessed the life-changing power of utilizing Dr. Gibson's approach. Believe me, this is very different from tutoring! Read the book to discover innovative ways to actually change the way your child's brain thinks and processes information. Through Gibson's cognitive approach, it is possible to see dramatic improvement in multiple areas such as: memory, processing speed, attention, reading, spelling, and self-esteem.Thank you Dr. Gibson for finding a way to "link" the latest cutting-edge brain research into usable techniques that truly re-wire and train the brain!Melissa Sorrells, M.S, CCC-SLPOwner/DirectorA Step Ahead Therapy for Kids, PLC
