Great Pick Set
When it comes to hook and pick sets, I've gone through my fair share, and I must say, these ones have truly held their ground and then some. In fact, I'd go as far as to say they're on par with the best sets I've ever owned. You see, I view these sets as what I affectionately call "wear items." Over time, as you put them to use on various projects, it's only natural that the picks will gradually dull. However, the exceptional quality of this particular set has been a pleasant surprise. Even though I fully expect wear and tear, these picks seem to maintain their edge remarkably well, making them more of a long-term companion than I initially anticipated. Their resilience is a testament to their craftsmanship, and it's clear that they've been built to withstand the test of time. In my world of tinkering and fixing, where precision and finesse are paramount, having dependable tools like these hook and pick sets is essential. They've become an integral part of my toolkit, always at the ready to tackle tasks that demand precision and attention to detail. So, if you're in the market for a set of hook and pick tools that not only get the job done but also prove to be reliable companions over the long haul, look no further. These sets are, in my book, a valuable addition to any DIY enthusiast's arsenal.

Nice "Little" Set of Picks
About a year ago I purchased a single straight Channellock 3" Scratch Awl (AWL3A) which is 6.7" in length (3" blade and 3.7" handle) which is a nice, well balanced, quality tool. When I saw this set, the pictures make it appear that the picks are the same overall size as the single 3" awl, but further reading shows they are not. Each of the four tools in the HP-4A Hook and Pick Set is 5.25" in length (2.75" blade and 2.5" handle). Knowing this, I went ahead and ordered the HP-4A set. The set is the same good quality as the 3" awl, but in my opinion they don't feel as balanced. They just feel a bit small in my hand, (and I have small, men's cadet sized hands)! This being said each of the tools in the set do their intended job well. They are good solid picks with sharp points and they don't bend when being used properly. Remember, these picks are not intended for prying. I can see that on smaller jobs, in tight quarters, the smaller handles may be of some benefit to a user. I just wish they matched-up with the good feeling and balanced AWL3A that I bought previously. Also, if they did, they would look better as a matched set on my peg board.

Quality, super sharp, hardened steel
These are the real deal. Real tools with super sharp hardened steel picks. The points are needle sharp. I made the mistake of first getting fake Chinese lookalikes. Big mistake. Their shiny steel picks bend far too easily. Not these. Note that these picks are small. Theyโre not for working on engines or large equipment. But theyโre great when working on household appliances and small projects. You may not need them often, but when you do, theyโre priceless.

Repurpose With Purpose
Channellock typically markets and sells its tools to trades people and homeowners looking for high quality tools for maintenance and repair. But I have found these picks also make great letter openers, knot un-tiers, boot sole cleaners, small hole punchers, and probably are good for a myriad of other creative uses. I've gotten strange looks when I've given these as gifts, but later get compliments shch as, "Wow, I never would have though these are great for.....". Despite the relatively small size and light weight for a pick, these are very sturdy and the handles grip well in my medium to large size hands and are easy to hold and manipulate like a pencil for more delicate tasks. These make a good conversation piece for those non-tool folks and are just fun to tinker with as well. And kudos for a high quality product made in the USA!

Quality, affordable, and USA made as bonus.
Firstly, I'll state that as of this review I've not put these through too much strain as of yet, though I've already used them both professionally and at home with my various hobbies and house work. Initially, my purchase was based on them being "made in USA", being reasonably priced, and being able to fill a tool necessity at both work and home, which is why I bought 2 sets. At work, they've already stood up to typical usage and I've even performed some abusive prying with them, though they're not meant to do this. Nevertheless, they've held up thus far, and feel sturdier and well made in comparison to the random budget picks I was using before. I've become, overall, a fan of the Channellock brand. They offer an array of USA made tools that cost below "premium" tool price, but are made as well as premium brands and are easily as good or better than pricier import equivalents.

Excellent tips and construction- quality product.
I have used this set multiple times now to remove small gaskets/o rings from equipment. They performed this task without any trouble, having all four shapes on the set I found extremely helpful as I was able to change the angle of my attack simply if I was unable to get it with my first choice. Pro's: The tips are very sharp and although are not thick metal they are very stiff and strong feeling, pay extra attention not to stab yourself when using these as I'm sure they will pierce skin very easily. The handles are made out of a hard acrylic so that oil or grease will not deteriorate them, this also makes them easily to wipe off after completing work. The only negative thing I could say about this product is that the handles are not very large, you notice it when you pick them up. However once using them it is not really noticeable at all. Overall I am very satisfied with this set of hooks and picks, the finish and construction are very nice- they give me the feeling that they will stand up the test of time and I look forward to using them.

Real Nice High Quality Pick Set from Channel!
A very nice quality pick set (Made in USA) which feels like it should last for years. I find a pick set one of the handiest tools in the tool box for those situations where nothing else works. Nice quality handles. The high strength steel should last for years under normal use. I've had cheaper pick sets and inevitably the tips break within a year or two. I've always appreciated the quality-value of Channel tools in general, all of which have never failed me and are a pleasure to use. They are as good as the (imho) over-priced similar German made hand tools costing 2 to 3 times as much. Highly recommended!

Needs a tray or case
The picks seem great, they look very nice. After about a week in my garage there was some corrosion starting so I think some oil from the factory would be in order. Maybe give your new set some carnauba wax or something. I got it off just rubbing with some oil and the film of oil left over seems to be enough to prevent more. My main complaint is that any tool like a pick or knife should come with some sort of protection for the sharp edge/tip for storage. Whether you use a portable tool box or a drawer setup, you don't want a set of picks just kicking around, possibly getting the tips damaged and scratching up other tools, as well as possibly poking your hand when you grab a tool. It would cost the company like $0.50 to include a cheap little blow molded case for them, or even cheaper they could redesign the packaging to have a removable piece to at least put in a drawer. I cut a little tablet from a cedar plank that I had for grilling salmon and chiseled out slots for the picks. Finished with tung oil, it works for my drawer tool box and looks great. I could also just make a second piece and strap/hinge it on top for a portable case. I'd recommend buying the picks and doing something similar. And make sure you lightly polish the picks with some oil or wax as soon as you get them. All that said, I'm happy with what I got for the money. The small size is perfect for most things. The tips are very fine but not so sharp they will break. The handles look great and will be easy to keep clean. They're made in USA and say it on the tool. They have part numbers clearly written on the back. For the price, I'm not sure you could get a better set anywhere. Definitely highly recommended, just remember those two things.

These are great for the price
Iโve been fixing car for a year now with these and there great, I always break the right angle one with the cheap kits, and the snap on set is really strong but there pretty pricy, these are definitely great though for the price, if I lose one or brake one I would be buying this set again 100%
