You get what you pay for...
This is another product I got as a freebie from work, and I have to say I'm glad I didn't spend my own money on it. So I won't be mister negative, I'll start with the positives. (Yes there are a few.)It's cheap, it records somewhat acceptable images, the sound is pretty good, it's cheap, and quick to set up and start using. Now for the negatives: The image is just barely acceptable, if you have low standards. The only way you'll be able to read a license plate number is if you are waiting for a light and you are stopped directly behind someone, and not moving. Otherwise, forget it. There is an electric feedback noise. The playback on the unit doesn't work, I had to take the card out and play it on my computer. The unit has to be plugged in all the time, or else you get maybe three seconds of running time before it shuts off. When I plugged it into my computer with the USB cord, nothing happens. All the buttons are completely unresponsive. The only way to play it back is to remove the card, and put it in an adapter and play it on your computer. Hopefully your computer has an SD card port! Otherwise you're not going to be able to play it back. There is no card included, by the way; you get to buy that separately.Basically, I can't really recommend this. My overly generous three star rating is because it was easy to use, and I didn't spend my own money on it. However, I'm boxing my freebie up and putting it in the Goodwill bag. I'll spend a few bucks and get a real one.

It's fine.
Someone needs to counteract those one-star ratings a bit.Cons: It's definitely not high definition videoPros: It's $25 for crying out loud. What did you expect?True, you're not going to win any film-making awards with this thing, but that's not what it's for. It's fine for keeping track of your daily driving. If I ever get a ticket or get into a traffic mishap while it's running I think it will provide enough evidence about traffic conditions to verify (or refute) my story. No, you won't be able to read a license number, at least not at normal traffic distances. So say the number out loud if you want to remember it: the audio recording will keep track of it for you. I find the audio to be just fine. No overpowering noise like other reviewers describe. Voice recording is clear. You probably wouldn't be able to use the video to positively identify any suspect in court, but it would be useful evidence. Yes, someday when technology gets cheaper and higher definition video comes down in price, I'll laugh at this like I laugh at my first digital camera or my first digital photo frame. But for $25 it's what I'd expect.I've posted a few screen shots of the actual video (I haven't set the time/date yet). Keep in mind that things actually appears a little sharper when in motion (since each frame will capture slightly different pixels... unreadable signs are actually pretty legible in motion). If this isn't good enough for your needs, don't buy this dash cam.I haven't tried using it unplugged yet, but all the other reviewers insist the battery only lasts for 4 seconds. So far that seems to be true, but maybe I'm not setting the device up correctly. The cable is a bit annoying dangling from the windshield, so if that proves to be true that could be another con. What on earth is the point of a battery at all if it only works for 4 seconds? I prefer to keep it plugged in so it comes on automatically when I start the car, anyway. It's also supposed to have a mode where it comes on when it senses motion, but if the battery needs recharging after 4 seconds that's worthless. I'll have to try changing some settings: if I find a way to fix this, I may update my review.
